Courtesy Car - 116 Se

I realise it's in the wrong place, but it's not a proper review or anything, and it's probably because i'm coming out of a 335D, but what a POS. Who buys a 116SE? Almost so bad that webuyanycar.com must have some sort of exclusion on it

Terrible driving position. My left foot kept catching the foot rest when pressing the clutch. Steering wheel felt like a bus steering wheel.

Gearbox was horrendous - my old e30 getrag gearbox pee'd all over this. I suppose it does have 6 forward gears. But i doubt i'd drive it anywhere unless my life depended on it.

Business stereo has to be one of the worst car radios i've ever heard.

But i did like the Stop Start at the lights thingy.

Can't see why anyone would buy this over a Golf or Focus.

It's almost like they made it bad so you would buy a more expensive version which i assume are much better.

They are bought by the same people who bought 3 series compacts in the 90's. These people also have machine washable suits and "leather" jackets made from vinyl cows.

Apparently the 116i M-Sport is the model to have.

In fact it's such a POS you couldn't polish it in any way.

It's weird cause I've driven a few 120d's and I thought they were fantastic to drive, lot more responsive than the 3 series anyway.

I suppose it's very unfair comparing an M Sport 335D with full fat to a 116.

But the gearbox was horrible.

I drove the 116d M Sport, manual, as a courtesy car and thought it was pretty good. Yeah, OK, not a match on what we all drive day-to-day, but pretty nippy. Very quickly ran out of puff when on an open road but for around town I thought it was great. Dare a say is, a proper 'wife' car (being massively stereotypical!!!).

Yep I can agree you misterS3. When my car was in getting a rattle in the sunroof looked at (for the 2nd time unsuccessfully) they loaned me a 116iSE
It was truly horrid. Hard plastic feeling skinny steering wheel and flat hard seat. YUCK!!!

Also for a 2.0 engine, it was dangerous on the road with such a lack of power.
No torque at all low down, no bhp when revved to the red line - absolutely terrible!!

And when you did rev it out, you thought that the pistons were gonna come thru the bonnet it sounded so strained.

I did not even bother to drive it on hard as it was just annoying and with that it still only returned 34mpg - WTF????

By comparison, my wifes old 120d sport was a blast to drive.

I am not just petrol bashing here - as I love a good petrol that can be revved.

It must be known to be a bit of a wheeze-bag as when I left it back the service guy asked if I was able to handle such power (with a smirk on his face)

It's a 2.0 engine!! No fekking way.....that makes it even crappier! I'd assumed because it was soooooo gutless and sounded like an old ford cvh from the mk 3 fiesta, that it was a 1.6 (or even 1.8 at best).

Oh yeh seat is terrible too.....

I'm hoping i get my car back today!! I'm gonna wash it when i do

Yep its a 2.0.

After I drove it I was sure it was only a 1.6 too and had to go on to the BMW site to check.
I was shocked!!

Must be quite a difference between the 116i and 116d then. But yes, it's hard to beleive they can make a 2.0 litre engine so gutless. A few years ago a 2.0 would've been on a lot of people's wish list!!!
