buying or importing?

i live in tokyo and have a 2007 e90 335i with M Sport package (wheels/headliner/suspension/steering/seats/doorsills) . I may be moving to hk soon. If I sell my car here I will probably get about 40,000 USD

Checking bmw hk website, the price of a 325i e92 is 543 000 Hong Kong dollars = 70 064.376 U.S. dollars.

1) does prices on the bmw hk website include the first registration tax?

2) does anyone know what kind of import tax i am looking at to bring in my 335i?

I have every option under the sun (comfort access/m sport/i drive/active steering/ipod integration). so unless the import tax is more than 20k-30k USD for a 2 yr old car, I may have to seriously consider importing it. the only downside is the car will be out of warranty and the idrive navigation will be useless.

Akhter:

1. The price published on BMWHK include First Tax Registration

2. If you wish to bring your car into Hong Kong , there is no import duty. However, if you want to use it in Hong Kong , you have to register and license the vehicle. All motor vehicles for use on the roads of Hong Kong are subject to a First Registration Tax under the Motor Vehicles (First Registration Tax) Ordinance (Cap. 330, Laws of Hong Kong). The tax is administered by the Transport Department on the basis of the published retail price.
Here is what you will have to pay in First Registration Tax:

Private cars -
(a)on the first $150,000 35%
(b)on the next $150,000 65%
(c)on the next $200,000 85%
(d)on the remainder 100%

Good luck and welcome to Hong Kong

Thank you very much for the detailed response.

How will they calculate the price of my car. I have owned it since it was new 2 years ago.

1) Will they use a market price of a 2yr old 335i?
2) If they use market price is it Japan market price or a pretax hk market price?
