Awesome! It's gonna be really hard not to trade in my LR3 for an X5 35d (with tune, of course)...except that I can't really afford that right now.

This is precisely the problem with tuning the diesel- the transmission is only designed to handle up to 500 or so lb-ft. Any more and you're seriously shortening its lifespan.
I'm happy for now but in the future I'd consider a mild tune up to about 300hp and 480 lb-ft. Any more is too much of a hassle. |

335i's 6AT tranny is rated at 330ft/lbs yet that's what a stock 335i makes, and there are dozens of 6AT N54s making over 450ft/lbs with no tranny issues.
And I think I read transmission ratings are done @ or near redline anyway. Which would make sense since even the 500+ ft/lb n54 cars only make about 330 @ redline |

+1..tuning diesels isnt exactly the same...too much injection timing and hello rod out the side of the block...
I would stick to the likes of Evolve whos been doin diesel tuning in the UK for years...they know the insides and outs of the new 335d, and if I get my hands on one next year my flash will be from them...granted they ever crack the US ECU code ![]() |
