[335i] Oil consumption and brakes issues.

Hello.

My car is 335i Step with 30.000 miles on it. I look for an advice on these issues:

1. Oil consumption: how much oil a reasonably used 335i should consume? I had to add a quart of oil twice within 1500 miles. Isn't it too much? There is no oil leak and I haven't seen any blue smoke. Some people say BMW high performance engines use a lot of oil and this is my first bimmer so I don't have any personal experience. I used to own VAG turbo cars and they just never used any oil between changes :

2. Red BRAKE warning light. Some weeks ago I got it on my dash and Idrive informed of necessity to change pads front and rear. I checked the brake fluid level and it was well within OK range. I knew the pads were ok, so I just reset the warning. Some ten days later it came on again. This time I changed pads and sensors even tough they were perfectly ok (more than half of the pads left) just to make sure and reset the warning light again. A week later d..n light is on again. Any ideas? Anyone had this problem before?

Regards.
Alex

The first issue seems odd to me. The most oil the car should use is a quart between oil changes. You seem to be putting in a quart every 500 or so miles, which is way to often.

As for the brakes, there could be an issue with the computer itself. I feel like you need to hit up the dealer for this one.

As for oil, I guess I didn't express myself correctly. What I mean is I had to add a quart of oil some 1500 miles ago, and now I have to do it again. So the car seems to use around a quart of oil every 1500 miles.

Brakes - I am really trying to avoid going to the stealers as the car is not covered by warranty anymore and I am pretty sure first thing they'll do is to simply reset it again, charge some silly money for it and send me away - "see if it comes back, if so, come again and we will rip you off once more" kind of stuff. That's why I am asking around to see if it is possibly more of a common issue and maybe someone has an idea what can be wrong with a car.

Brake fluid should be changed every 2 yrs, so that's what the car may be telling you. You really don't want to put that off because brake fluid absorbs water and the water will lead to corrosion and decreased braking performance.
