Found another gangsta lean picture. This one from an M3 and complete with rosary beads hanging from the mirror.

So much win.

Gangsta lean crew checking in.

I do it for the lulz and for the safety in case the airbags deploy... i'll have half a second longer to brace myself for the knock-out punch to the face.

You don't have that extra half a second. The airbag goes from nothing to fully inflated in 20 to 30 milliseconds. In a serious frontend collision, if you have too much space between your body and the airbag and you are leaning way back and down low a la gangster lean, the shoulder belt will probably break your neck first as you slide down the front of the seat becasue the lap belt cannot holding you by your hip bones.

Ditto....went to BMW Drivign School last spring, in Toronto. You don't get out on the course until the driving instructor's check your seating position....wrists on top of the steering wheel while shoulder blades firmly against the seatback, legs not able to fully extend while pressed underneath the pedals. BMW's head driving instructor, Pierre Savoy, was personally checking each person in the Perfection course. Each time you moved your hands away from 9 & 3, they would publicly chastise you over the radios.

First thing I did when I got back into my own car was move the seat forward and the seat-back up.

Seat position for me is the same on track and on street. Took a while to get used to have both hands on steering wheel at 9/3 position and taking hand off wheel only for shifting, from before having 1 hand at the noon position. I also find that I am now sitting more "square", having all limbs (legs/arms) square behind the steering wheel. Ass and shoulders firmly on the seat with the lower thighs supported by the sport seat extension. Use your hands/wrist to steer instead of the arms.

Street driving for me has become practice for track, vision vision vision, then smooth in doing everything else. Remember the first 20% of everything, either steering, braking, letting go of the brake or accelerating is the most important.

Only difference in track and street driving is the hard braking on track!
