Catless with Vibrant resonators (#1792)
I just installed some AR catless DPs two weeks ago, and I have the CP-e exhaust system already installed for a while....It sounds great but there is an occasional rasp at low rpms since I have a AT..The occasional rasp note is only apparent when I am in D mode and not DS mode....The rasp is not bad, but I want to see if I can get rid of it all together and make it perfect...I asked a couple of forum members and they told me to add some resonators to the exhaust and that should reduce the raspyness, so I ordered a pair of Vibrant Performance model #1792 resonators measuring 12 inch by 3.5 in diameter from StreetSideAuto.com and they arrived today...Two pairs of these resonators cost me 95 bucks shipped...The resonators looks to be good quality and the welds are really nice and they are made in China...My exhaust shop is closed until Monday, so I will have installed next week....I am going to install them in the midpipes section where there is a straight section where I can cut and weld these suckers into place...Here are some pics of the resonator..

I don't even know what his exhaust sounds like when I was at his house, but I just want to try to get rid of that raspyness when your in D mode and cruising and decide to punch the throttle, there is a split second when there is rasp and thats what I am trying to get rid of....If these don't work I can live with that....![]() Kevin told me to get some resonators and it would eliminate that rasp totally, so I looked into it...Anyway the cost of the resonators are cheap 95 bucks shipped, can't beat that price... |

I wanna replace my cats with resonators. But I want to attach flanges to the resonators and to the oem cats. (so they are easily swappable)

That is going to sound raspy as hell with catless DPs and muffler delete! I think Donald-335i just posted a video of it, and there is tons of rasp and he has a MT....my minor rasp is miniscule compared to that on a AT, and hopefully these resonators will eliminate it all together..

I cant wait to see how this work. I have a resonator delete and some magnaflow mufflers on and the slight drone around 2k is annoying. Being in D definitely gets annoying because it hangs right in the zone where it drones.

I had the same problem when i went catless and resonated midpipes from Rennart fixed it. No more drone/rasp.

Resonators will get rid of rasp but will not do anything for drone.
Resonators take away high pitched sounds so I think you'lll like the result. I have AE with MS DPs and the sound is perfect.

also if resonators don't help with drone what does? is it ultimately the design of the exhaust?

resonators are straight pipes as you can see from my pics and doesn't effect flow but basically resonates the sound and absorbs it into the element (fiberglass), supposedly making the exhaust from rasping....I will soon find out if it works!!!

AE exh has a catted or catless version... either one comes with mufflers... they dont run straight pipe...
hit up Nick @ AE with any questions he will take the time to talk to you...

Installed the Vibrant resonators (1792) into my CPE exhaust today, and there is ZERO rasp now!!!!!!
![]() ![]() Before installing the catless DPs, there was slight drone with my exhaust already, and after the DP install without the resonators the car droned more....With the resonators installed there is significantly much less drone to the point I can't really call it annoying and there is less than before the catless DPs!!!!!!...Its a pure DEEP, THROATY exhaust note...In D mode when I hit the gas while cruising, its just moves with no rasp that I exhibited in the lower rpms...Here are some pics but they are really shit.....Blackberry camera phone....My exhaust shop was able to weld both resonators on right before the rear brace...I am now a happy camper and don't sound like a CIVIC! For anyone that has any type of rasp, to get rid of this annoying rasp, you should consider these Vibrant resonators part #1792 which fits perfectly and cost only 95 bucks shipped...Install cost me 130 bucks... BTW...I will let you guys know tomorrow when I do a COLD start to see how much of a difference it makes with these resonators, but I will tell you this when the engine is warm and idling the exhaust is definitely less audible than without them...It less of a paper flapping noise/ farting sound!! I had many exhaust systems on my previous cars, but first time going catless and I wasn't too happy with the sound afterwards, but after installing these resonators, I have to say its sounds very exotic and better than I ever thought it would sound...Looking at the resonators before the install, I would have never guessed it would have dampened the sound of the rasp and change the exhaust tone to the point that it sounds deeper but muffled! Its crazy but this shit works!! lol Last edited by cn555ic; 01-04-2010 at 07:18 PM. |

Thanks for sharing. I was considering the same resonators for my AA system. It has the same low end rasp from a start... mostly if you lug it (mine is a 6MT). I wasn't sure if they would fit... need to check my layout to see if there is room at the same location as yours.
I have drone too. Bugs the $hit out of me. I think I know what the issue is though. (I know the resonators won't help drone.) The exhaust is contacting the cross plate right behind where your resonators are mounted. I am going to see if I can move the exhaust up... if not, I will space the plate down as needed. Thanks again for the pics. Any chance of posting a sound clip? Bill
