That link takes me to BMW UK News: 18/01/2007 New 1 Series three-door arrives ... I can't see anything about new 3 Series engines..?

What's the USB interface for - music/MP3 playing or faster software upgrades? Either or both would be very useful... though too late for me this time around unless there's a retrofit, which seems unlikely.

Me neither, but I'm not sure I like the Auto Start Stop feature, but see that it can be switched off.

The USB interface is as listed above and will cost £205.
This is already on my Fleet company software as well as Chrome buttons on the professional radio.

The Engines are standard between 1 Series and 3 series as they are at the moment. The changes are being applied to the 3 in March according to dealer

Additionally both the USA and Canadian spec suggests that the programmable iDrive shortcut keys may appear:

Quote:
Navigation Package
.. Includes Programmable Memory Keys for Sedan, Touring and Coup as of 03/07.. Functionality same as that introduced on X5 SAV, 3 Series Cabriolet and MY08 5 Series
The engine upgrades I would think will probably have to wait until the September updates, rather like the 5 has had to wait 6 months for the newer x35d engine.

That engine start-stop stuff has been tried a few times before by other manufacturers (VW gold some years ago) but doesn't seem to have caught on yet. I guess the mention of it being able to be turned off is because of this.

According to the following article Citroen are going a stage further and using a hybrid alternator design as a starter motor as well in order to auto start and stop the car everytime that it somes to a halt.
