M-Tech Front Bumper.. do I need the undershield?

Ive got the front bumper, fogs, grills, air ducts, wheel liners etc.... the only thing I haven't got is the under shield, is this really a big deal to fit? will I be able to use the existing one? or does the new bumper just not fit? I am still wondering why this needs to be changed.. if anyone has any intel on this please do reply, I have the bumper coming back from the body shop and the last thing I want to do is have to put back all the stock parts because something didn't fit....

Also, the new ducts need some cutting according to an install guide someone sent me, is this just plastic I need to cut?

Finally, I noticed a few people have just done the cover and grilles only, and not messed around with all the internals, the tech at BMW looked at me with a look of disgust and said you don't want to do that son, you will restrict the airflow severely...

The engine shield just doesn't match up with the back of the bumper, there will be a gap, you can probably drive it like that for a bit, or just leave the shield off for a bit until you get one - tischer has them for like 70 bucks. It should not prevent you from putting the bumper on and you can always put it on later.

As for the cutting - the brake ducts move closer to the center of the car with the new ducts to grab air from the center grill instead of the foglight grills, they hit the plastic that outlines the intercooler opening, so you just need to trim it back - very easy to do, a demel or small saw will do the trick.

I wouldn't go without the ducts, they move a lot of air to the brake area and more importantly if you have the oil cooler, you want that duct functioning!

Thanks for the responses! I will definitely get the under-shield, now all I need is a camera so I can make a DIY of the process and a nice pair of splitters!

Thanks again!

Mine's in the shop now having the kit fitted. It's too damn cold here to do it myself Anyway, I'm sure you'll be happy with it, it looks awesome.

make sure you cut the area out like stated in the instructions (black plastic in front of radiator) other wise even the under shield won't mate up with the holes in the bottom of the bumper.

How hard was it to replace the standard with the MTech? Did you also do rear and rocker?

DIY may not happen, Im having issues again with the HPFP and also a ticking noise on start up so Im getting the car back in to the dealer and then once its all fixed Im seriously considering selling the car.. I may end up selling the bumper at a loss but as a kit obviously.

I can def give you the part numbers, pm me with your model, year and whether you have active cruise control, front parking sensors etc.. I have all the parts here so I can reply with the p/n's.
