Battery for keyless

What kind of battery does the keyless entry use? Do I have to purchase it from BMW dealer?

If it's non-Comfort Access, it's rechargeable.

If it's Comfort Access, it's one CR2032. You can buy a 2-pack of them at Wal-Mart for less than $5.

If you don't have Comfort Access, the battery charges while the fob is engaged in the slot below the start button. Obviously this is only for cars with push-button start and no key.

Opening your door by just touching your door knob without pushing the remote,

or you can start your engine without having to insert the fob in the slot.

basically having your key in your pocket the entire time.

thanks for the information regarding what type of battery it is. I just ordered the "CR2032" from eBay, 5 pieces for 4.69$ with free shipping.

How do you get to the battery to change it? A picture would really help.

It's very easy. Remove the metal key first. The backside of the remote has an obvious battery door on it. Once you remove the metal key you'll see a small slot that you can use something (fingernail, paper clip etc) to lift up the cover and remove the battery. The cover just friction fits on the back with a rubber gasket/seal.
