As I recall, that's how mine behaved after I installed it, but before I had it activated.

I tried sticking my hand in the window - no dice. Hood switch test - no dice.

A problem I had was removing the rear wheel though. I had two friends with me (one's really really buff) and none of us could get it off. Fortunately I could complete it without removing it.

Activating next week so hopefully everything will work then.

One more thing - when I lock the car, the LED flashes rapidly for the first few seconds then returns to normal. In the instructions BMW says that means either a door or something is not secure (which I checked everything was OK) or the interior sensor is not correctly connected (which I also checked was OK).

Anybody else have this problem?
I think that's how it's supposed to work. Mine blinks quickly for about 2-3 seconds, and then blinks normally.

just got my alarm activated at European Auto works in Sunnyvale, $99.97 and 45 minutes of work to program my car... Very friendly service, I'd definately recommend them to anyone looking to do this.. beats 6 hours and 275$ that bmw of mountain view wanted.

That's a very good deal, dealers around my area were charging similar prices. I found a dealer about an hour away that is willing to program for 135 so I may do that this weekend.

If you don't have these wires, then the car probably isn't pre-wired. The hood pin harness doesn't come with the alarm.

Man I don't know whats with the confusion.
I'll install your alarm for you if your car is prewired and you are in SoCal for $50.

Update: I got my alarm activated at the local dealership for $145. They initially said it was going to take 2+ hours @ $125/hr = $250+ but after negotiating with leverage they charged us for 1hr even though it ended up taking about 1.5 hours (who knows whether it was closer to an hour or to 1.5).

Everything works like a charm now Chirps at unlock and lock, and I can change the settings in the BC menu to chirp only/flashers only/both for unlocking and locking.

If all the windows are rolled down and the motion sensor is triggered does all the windows roll up with the alarm on?

Warm weather aloud me to install my alarm finally and I think it only took me about 30mins to do total. Thanks for the write up and my clown nose blinks! Just need to get it programmed now

Got my alarm installed today. At first I thought it might be hard but once I got started I thought it was very simple. Here is what works so far:

Interior motion sensor
Blinking clown nose (fast for about 20 times, then once every 3 seconds thereafter)

Not Working:
Unlock/Lock chirp
Panic button(only opens trunk)
Hood sensor
Tilt sensor

One dealer quoted me $135 to activate. I have to call other dealers and see which is cheaper.

That's probably the cheapest you'll find, the dealers in my area charged at the least 1 - 1.5 hrs of labor at $120 per hour.

I'm pretty sure the thief can sue BMW for personal injury if his arm gets stuck and is hurt. But then there would be definite proof that he was trying to steal something in the car.

I just had the dealer change my steering wheel airbag under warranty because the roundel was fading. Since this required them to program the car for the new airbag, they programmed my alarm for free!

Does anyone know yet which software version is ok to not have to update before installing the alarm?

I installed the alarm purchased from Morristown bmw and went to the dealer (Flow in Winston Salem) to program it. To my surprise they said the alarm is defective and because I bought it from an authorized BMW dealership they will reorder it and replace it. And when I think I was almost ready to order it on Ebay. Long story short after another visit they installed and programed it a couple of days later. I had some work done at them in the past so they did it for free.
btw: the alarm is a joke. I cannot imagine a thief getting panicked or even scared by the alarm chirp sound. Not to mention that is so easy to disconnect the system if you know the wire is behind the rear wheel. Anyway, it does make a nice sound when you lock it and unlock it.

So true. I like the chirps for lock and unlock too.
at least the alarm should go off if you try to disconnect the siren. most likely jacking the car up while locked should set off the tilt sensor.

anyone done one for E93 2009 cabri model series....

I was told that my production model of Sept 2009 was not pre-wired due to a system change? Has anyone heard about this? And therefore cannot be wired for alarm. The contradictions is that I do have a clown nose under my rear mirror, but could not find the wiring harness by the engine cowl next to brake reservoir. Anyone out there with same issues...

Yes but it's April of 09. I retrofitted alarm on mine. I too had the clown nose so I didn't need a new mirror. The retrofit cost $400 but the install is a PITA.

That's the same thing that I was just told for my 2010 328i. I also have the clown nose but no pre-wiring.

Man this reeeeally SUCK

Oh man ! this is a serious situation, so what means is we can't have alarms in our models due to system changes in mid production??? I know the alarm itself is a joke from my E46.

Does this seem strange to anyone else?

Took the alarm to my dealer after having it sit around for a few months (always too busy to do the install). The SA calls me up later to say that the box is missing the siren and that I have to pay $230 to get a replacement. I talk to the shop manager who "gets to the bottom of it" and says the siren is in fact there, but that it doesn't work on my car (2008 e90 328xi). He says that they need to order the newer "power siren" because there's a service bulletin that basically says the old siren can't be programmed to my car. Of course the new siren can't be exchanged for the old one despite the fact that I bought the retrofit kit from an authorized dealer and it must be purchased for basically the same price as the kit.

Has anyone heard of this or seen a service bulletin stating as such?
