Gasoline...whats the best brand?

What is the best brand to use? Are there any signifigant performance benefits in using a certain brand over another? e.g shell V-power vs. ultra 94 octance from sunoco?

I recently filled ultra 94 from sunoco and my car seems to behave very differently from shell v power. Am I just imagining this or is there a real difference ?

Any reccomendations?

I have found a significant difference in peformance and fuel consumption using Sasol TurboDiesel over other brands.

I don't think this would affect you :-)

In my petrol driving days....I didn't notice any difference.

The best brand is the cheapest one that doesn't make your engine knock.

I use BP Amoco, Mobil/Exxon, Sunoco, Shell. There's a lot of them here in the NYC area. Most of the time it's just BP Amoco and Mobil.

I used Sunoco 94 religously on my last car, had a turbo. It improved performance a bit, but that's because it ran through the turbo smoother. I'd stick with Sunoco if you can find it.

I only know what I feel, 76 is very unrefined, chevron is good but too smooth and no power, shell is smooth and powerful.

Yes I could indeed feel the difference.

All gas is refined to the same degree, basically. The only difference is is the cleaners that the different companies use in thier gas. As long as you don't buy really, really cheap gas and use the right octane, you'll be fine.

BMW, General Motors, Honda and Toyota created a standard called Top Tier gasolines. Here's a page on GM's site to explain it.

I used to stick with a particular brand of gas until gas prices creeped up and I tried a few "off brands". To tell you the truth, I haven't noticed any difference in performance.

Back when I lived in Atlanta, I used Chevron gas, but I tried Quicktrip (the cheapest gas in the area) and my car ran just as good. After looking at that Top Tier gas page, it looks like both brands are recommended.

Now that I am in the NYC/NJ area, I generally use Hess, simply because its cheaper. But I sometimes use Exxon and a few other random brands. I usually avoid Sunoco because they have misleading prices. They show a price on the sign for "premium", but when you get to the pump, its actually 91 octane. Then you have to pay an even higher price for the 93 octane (and some have an even higher level of 94 octane).

I will stick with the stations that have 93 for premium (although, the manual does say that 91 is acceptable).

Shell and Chevron. I could almost feel a difference between Shell's 93 and other brands -- until they started calling it V-power. Since then the magic diminished... I also fill up at Chevron because where I live, Chevron stations are very clean and have better machines.
