ECU Explorer equivalent for BMW?

I have an Audi friend of mine that was using something called ECU explorer to log a TON of engine parameters on his laptop in real time. Does anyone know of something similar that I could use on my 335 that does not cost a fortune?

THX!

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a bt cable? Where could I purchase one? Are they worth the cash for the features they provide? I'm not looking to tune, I just love data.

BT Cable = Bavarian Technic Cable

They cost $287 but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to give you the link

Just search it on google and if you somehow can't find it then I'm sure a vendor will paste you a link shortly...

OK. I'll Google it when I get home. If you know of a cheaper/better place to get one please shoot me an IM.

One more question, I'm assuming this is read only access, correct? I would not want to screw something up by accidentally changing something.

Thanks!

The software's pretty good IMO, you can actually reset the codes too so if you have an annoying light flash up every now and then but you know nothing is wrong you can simply 'reset' it and poof the problem disappears BUT obviously you shouldn't be resetting things you don't know about

And you can extract ALOT of data from it

Ok. I checked out the website and it looks like the Enthusiast Package
would be the one to go with. Is there anything else I would need to make this work with my 08' 335? (Besides the laptop)

I found a great post from Shiv about this tool that I'm still digging through..

One final question, is the basic tool enough for me or would I need the more expensive one? In layman's terms, what does the $800 version do that the $300 does not?

Thanks!

If you have to ask the difference between the two, then you'll never need the pro features.

I believe the BT reads the VIN number of the car it is attached to, before it will provide any information. The Enthusiast Package ($300) will work for three different VIN numbers (3 cars), the Pro package ($800) will allow scanning of any number of cars - good e.g. for a car club.

I read the BT FAQ. I know you can reset codes and such, but can you use the BT cable and software to reset the vehicle software (or whatever) so that, for instance, if you install an alarm system yourself, you can avoid the dealer charge to activate it?
