Engine Rough Idle on Start-Up

I have noticed this for the past 2 days.
Even when the car has been used for some time, not just cold.

It lasts about 6 seconds then clears. It feels as though the engine is "shaking" a bit.

Any ideas ?

Joseph

Have your fuel pump checked, that is one of the symptoms as well as the long starting crank time.

Most BMWs have rough idle on cold start ups, some more than others. Now if it does it after you engine has warmed up thats not common.....

My car was manufactured (born) on 1/15/08.

This is well after the fuel pump problem was (supposedly) solved. Also, it starts up with no hesitation.

I've got a 1/31/08 production e92 and I get the rough idle on cold startup as well. No issues when warm. It goes away after 15 seconds or so. It starts right up.

when i start my cvar up in the morning sometimes it stumbles and shakes for a few seconds or a split second and then idles normal until the revs drop to normal level.
car always does it since i got it. sometimes it doesnt do it though and starts up normal and the revs jump higher.

i have a 2006 bmw 330xi with 90,000 miles every single time i start my car, even after using it and engine is hot, it starts up then idle shoots down to 500 rpm shakes like crazy seems like its about to shut off then shoots up to 1300 rpm and then idles fine. I have an intake and no mufflers or resonator. This started happening after today i tried doing a burnout by letting of the clutch fast. ever since then this is happening. Any ideas?

Same problem here and have taken it to the dealer twice for the same reason and they said no codes and nothing was wrong so dont worry about it...noticed it less when I used Shell 93oct w/out ethanol but the bastards changed over to 91 w/out ethanol. So right now in the process of finding a different gas station that will give me the same result. I love less shaking!! lol

my two cents...

I took mine in and it was the thermorstat...39k miles on the car and the thermostat goes out...really? I think it was more of a sensor than total failure because I never got a hard code. But apparently the sensor is in the same housing as all the other parts so the whole thing needs to be replaced.

Have had 3 3-series now - 01 330i Sport, 03 330iZHP, and current 07 335i coupe - never had rough idle on any of them. Cold starts usually result in higher idle speed for 30 seconds or so, then down to 650, no shaking, etc.

Might try putting some Techron in your tank next time you fill up and run through that thank, see if it cleans things up a bit.

rough idle is one or more bad injectors and a reprogram (dealers replace plugs as well)..most of the time...plugs/coils cause misfires mostly on high load/rpm conditions..

I have an 09 3 series, had the same problem causing, what I would call, excessive carbon build up at the tailpipe. I had to send it in twice, first was a software update, didn't help much, then the second time they did a firmware update that they said was just released, runs fine now and the fuel economy also improved.

Notice a lot of people stating this. Is this just on the 335 and not the 330 or 325/328?

I experienced rough start-up and idle bumping up and down (500-1200 rpm) for about ten seconds during the last cold snap, it was 23F in my garage. Happens only when the car has been sitting overnight. And I now always get P29E0 fuel mixture code and sometimes P0171 lean code. I'm thinking injectors because it only happens when sitting overnight cold.

My thoughts would be a leaky injector.

Not to bring up a thread from the dead.

Im starting to experience this issue as well. My car has 26,xxx miles its under CPO should I just bite the bullet or try by swapping out the spark plugs first.? Or is a leaking injector the most common thing.? I'd Rather not have to take my car into the dealer unless I have to.

TIA
