Has anyone used the ACT 6 puck yet?

I am a bit biased towards ACT clutch. Has any one used the ACT 6 puck yet? I don't know about the street disc full face for my project; even though ACT always underrates their clutch, you never know with these kind of things.

If you have, hows the feel? How would the 6 puck compare to say, the 4 puck?

That is a good question.... what clutch would you guys recommend that can handle up to 450-500whp and doesn't have a ridiculously stiff feel? There's GOT to be something out there that is the best of both worlds. My stock clutch won't last much longer, especially since I got DRs.

I have the 6 puc on my car, during break in was a bit of bitch.. but has gotten allot better.. engagement is good and not too rough. A bit chattery on 1st and 2nd on low RPMs but that's expected. overall I'm really happy with it, it just engages at really high rpm launches.. no slip at all..

two things to note.. does not come with a throwout bearing or an alignment tool... you'll need to get both from the dealer or online.

^^ Good thinking.

I don't think the full face would have gripped enough for my Single turbo project. We're at the point now were I need to think about this hardware. I am really partial to ACT, so I am going to go with that I think.

The 6 puck seems like the best bet.

Question, were did you order the alignment tool and throw out bearing? Also, how often do you drive the car?

It's my daily driver, so I drive it allot.. the first 500 miles or so were a real bitch.. but other than that.. it's gotten allot better. I just got the alignment tool and bearing at my dealer.

you may enjoy a spec, stage 3. keep your dual mass so u get a SAC, which keeps near stock like clutch feel, especially by modifying the fulcrum point. im sure you know the details on what a SAC is as it's been discussed in various threads on this forum. it has been great for me, sure im biased because i own a spec clutch and it's lasted my rough track sessions, i think there are some other companies make a SAC kit too if you're on that bandwagon

I left the stock dual mass flywheel on, feels much closer to stock this way. I've been thinking about replacing it, but can't justify it right now.

You need the alignment tool, but I couldn't find it or didn't search hard enough. The tech that did it for me just grabbed it from the dealer or made his own. Any BMW clutch alignment tool should do.

I tend to agree based upon multi-puck clutches I've used with other cars. Could be different with the e9x, I don't know. But definitely try to give it a try before committing to it. Nothing is more irritating than being stuck with a clutch that is less driveable than what you predicted or are willing to deal with.

FWIW, I have a Spec stg 2+ with lightened flywheel. It's perfectly chatter-free although I suspect some people may find it too easy to stall due to the 30lb reduction in flywheel mass. My daily driving doesn't consist of much stop-and-go traffic so it doesn't bother me at all but YMMV.

It is chattery mostly at stop and go traffic, but you have to expect that from a racing clutch. The other solution is getting the street one, but I'm actually quite happy with this one. I can deal with the chatter, and it's more drivable than expected once broken in.

I might be getting bigger turbos so it will be necessiary, also a loud car is not a big deal. I had a convertable air cooled 911 for a while and it didnt bother me in the least

The only clutch company that seems to address the engagement point problems and heavy pedal is Clutch Masters. They alter the fulcrum point keeping lower pedal pressure than competitors and stock like engagement location.

Puck style will give engagement chatter, but the longer you drive the car the less the chatter.
