Squeaky noise when turning right

Hi,

I got a squeaky noise that sounds like it is coming from the the front of the car when I am making a right turn, it's silent when I go straight or left. Kind of weird, I just got my brakes replaced for squealing.

It's still under warranty, so I will take it in soon. Just want to check whether this is a common problem, if anybody has clue what it could be, and how quickly I should get that fixed.

Thanks!

There's an SIB out on this -- SA is told to advise the customer to avoid right turns when possible until BMW comes up with a solution...

Yeah... just become a Nascar driver, don't have to worry about right turns anymore.

No, it's a squeaky/squealing noise that only comes when the car is turning right.

I would strongly encourage you to plot your route in advance using all left turns.

From the desk of the problem avoidance team.

brake pads. dont let the service advisor tell you that its normal. its not.

most likely the inner pad is worn down unevenly and when you turn right, it pushes weight towards the left and you'll get noise.

the service man will actually have to pull off the caliper and look at the pads. you cannot just eyeball it with the caliper on.

You should check your left wheel bearings. A bad bearing will make this noise.

My bet is on power steering belt, pump or hose. Could also be a bad seal in the steering rack.

The squeaky noise seems to be in synch in with the rotation of the tires, so my guess is also brake pads or wheel bearings. Since it could be brake pads, I will monitor it a couple more days and see if it goes away.

its true that if you keep making left turns ... you'll eventually go the right way...

Jokster are off the hook again here. Anyways, there was no real solution. The noise somewhat diminished over time, I am not sure if it went away completely, I don't drive with the windows open that much anymore due to weather here in NJ. I talked to a BMW rep once on the phone about it, and he pretty much told me to backup a couple of times at speed and then brake hard to clear up any break dust buildup that there may be. Not sure if that made a difference though.

Does it happen only at slow speeds or always. If slow speed my guess is brakes if not then who knows.

I had a creak in my steering rack....dealer lubricated it and has not come back since. I had it checked out at about 42K....I'm at 60,500 now.

I had started to live with it, but now it seems to have gone away. Maybe some more wear on the pads and rotors will do it.

I'm getting this problem now, seems to only happen at low speeds turning right, probably amplified by being in a parking garage. Or maybe I just can't hear it when turning faster?
