BMW X5 4.6iS and 4.8iS
Anyone had one?
Any good, are they reliable? Is servicing lots (e.g. like an Insp I & II on an E46 M3 due to valve clearances), or is the engine just a lightly breathed on "normal" BMW petrol? |

I had a 2004 4.4 and absolutely loved it. I had a 4.8is for a day and while I really enjoyed it I thought it rode much too stiff for me - so much so that I don't think my 80yr old dad would have been able to deal with it. If you can deal with the stiffness they are fantastic vehicles for what they are.

The engines are ALPINA units out of the B10V8 (4.6) B10v8s (4.8). Hand built and absolutley stonking. been in a 4.8is and a lot of truck for the money. On my shopping list for when i get home.

Quick search shows up some anecdotal reliability issues - notably gearboxes going kaput.
They are quite cheap though - 4.6iS around 10k, 4.8iS now well under 20k. Leggy, but nice..... http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1876131.htm |
