Fully loaded
Is this perhaps becoming an overused term in the world of the German sports saloon/coupe/estate?
I see it all the time and to me it means nothing. "Fully loaded" means very rich, a gun with full ammo or a car that's carrying a lot of luggage. It does not mean a car with a few options ticked. But if it did, when does a car "qualify?" Does it need more than 10% of it's list price added as options for example? Or more than 10 options added? In which case I'll call our two bob Jimny "fully loaded" for having better tyres, lamp covers, rubber floor mates and a towbar! Beginning to grate me more than "level playing field, low hanging fruit and at the end of the day" Probably just me as usual though.

In car selling term, that phrase has been around for years. Most adverts I have seen these days tend to use phrase like 'High Spec' or 'Massive Spec' if you are being cheesy. If someone said to me they are selling a car and it's fully loaded, I would interpret that to mean it has all the available extras (or all the ones worth caring about).

Yes the term Fully Loaded is over-used but folk use anything to sell cars these days. I interperet Fully Loaded as most people would on this forum as 'many optional extras' selected. It's easy to see through those false claims. My old 335i was indeed fully loaded (10k extras) and the X3 is also (similar extras if not more).
Fully Loaded is what you want it to be. To me its a shit load of extras (to some its a CD Changer!).

I guess a CD changer is as dead as a do-do nowadays. I think I've only used mine once in nearly a year now. Just can't be bothered.
Being able to play my iPod after downloading on the computer so many tracts is fantastic! In my last Beemer the muli-changer was an important 'extra' and sort after. I doubt on new motors if BMW can give them away now. How times change! |

For me fully loaded usually means all, or nearly all, the options - usually the new buyer has really gone to town.
Loaded usually refers to a car with the most important/popular options fitted. For me, this usually means: Nav Phone int Xenon Heated seats Leather Auto Music/USB int Some of these might be subjective, but I always think the seller is having a laugh saying a car is loaded or high spec if it doesn't have eg nav or bluetooth |

Does not annoy me. But I do expect a car to be "Fully" loaded if
advers states such.

If I see 'fully loaded' then I expect every box ticked on the options sheet. Nobody buys a full pint with the level at 3/4 of the glass....
And yeah have to confess it's one of my triggers, right up there with 'sheer weight of traffic' - I mean, what makes it 'sheer', it's either the weight of traffic or it's a combination of things, the former is explicit enough without adding a superficial adjective to it just to try and add some impact/drama to the term. English. The forgotten language... ![]() /rant (feel better now ) |

And here was me thinking my next car was going to be fully loaded, but omitted the towbar, could only get one of the audio systems, couldn't get comfort AND sport seats,... missed out the bit of the heads up display that tells you what the speed limit is...erm..the universal remote control (which doesn't work).....oscillating seat, ventilated seat (not available with sports), the rear blinds..the powered tailgate...in fact if anyone got a full loaded BMW they need their head checked!! lol

What grates me is people who use "it's" instead of "its". That sentence says: "Does it need more than 10% of it is list price added as options for example?" Probably just me again...

Okay then - fully loaded cars: Must have every single option ticked - except some options delete other options. So really a fully loaded car is impossible. It must also have the essential item for a "fully loaded" car - a "fully loaded" engine bay... But who knows - maybe it's time for some blue sky thinking on this one? ![]()

xenon - thanks for the "help."
Now please search through this website for which I wrote all the copy and come back with any mistakes. http://www.bnc.ox.ac.uk It's and its has always been a weakness/blindspot for some bizarre reason which is why we all proof each others work - like the 234 business case studies I've just gone through. I'll be watching your grammar like a hawk now... ;-)

Given the subject matter one presumes it was edited and proof-read for mistakes so I don't think I'll bother.

But of course you'll be happy to show me your copy writing credentials to back up your pedantry?

I don't have any and nor do I claim to, it's called an education.
Incidentally, "copy-writing" should be hyphenated.

Actually copywriting is one word so we are both wrong.
Strange chap you are xenon - you have a huge number of posts yet have only started three yourself. This suggests you lack the confidence to add anything but comments to others posts; sometimes useful and informed comments but more often than not critical comments. Now I reckon you probably work for *** , probably as an engineer - this explains the need to correct others all the time. Ghosty - ![]() ![]()

Just to clear things up, this is what "fully loaded" means.

Well maybe having a little spirit is more interesting than being some hyper pedantic bore? Still at least you have a "fully loaded" 320i eh?

Well possibly, but the incessant digs, like that one, of any BMW that doesn't conform to your ideal, in virtually every post, is the real bore.
There's nothing wrong with the 320 in everyday use but unfortunately it's far from "fully loaded" by whatever definition you want to apply. If I want excitement then I drive something else but I don't really need that on the way to work.
