I change it every 3k. I Been out of warranty and I have 89k miles on my ride. It runs like it did back when it had 20k miles.

Both independent shops I use, and trust, have told me they see a difference in higher mileage (100k+) cars that have had oil service at the interval, versus twice per interval (5k-7.5k). The main difference is the oil burn rate. Sludge issues and serious engine problems are usually linked to morons, other causes, or both. They also think 3k is overkill, unless you're racing.

15,000 mile oil change interval on my e46 and at 184,000 miles it does not burn even a drop of oil.

I'm with you. My E90 has 117K on it with 17,000 OCI and only burns a quart just about the time I need to change the oil.
