BMW iPod Cable - No USB/Micro USB CLC

Hi Guys

Just a thought.

I'm getting my new car in October (E90) and looking at options for iPhone charging/aux in for under the armrest. I know about the Griffin Autopilot however I wondered if I bought a micro USB for the cigarette lighter socket and bought the ipod cable would that do the trick? I know it won't play/display anything through USB but it would look a bit neater with the shorter cable lengths. Has anyone tried this?

Cheers

Darren

bestbuy or other retailers have a Belkin micro usb lighter socket charger that is pretty nice. bought it a while ago. and just use a stand aux cable. sucks to keep the iphone in the glovebox and you cant see whats playing, unless your ok with a set playlist...hope that helps if thats what youre looking for

Thanks, I was just thinking the new Kensington Micro USB with the BMW ipod cable would enable me to just have to connect 1 cable into the iPhone. I'll see if if my local dealership will let me test it.

I have used the Belkin one with the Apple cable and as you said, it does not play music over USB, but does charge fine.

I use BlackBerry Bluetooth Music gateway plugged into a USB charger and the Aux input.

Lets me keep my Ipod Touch outside the center console and play/change music. No charging.

I believe the iphone also has bluetooth, so this might work for you.

What are you trying to accomplish? You will probably get the new iPod features if you get your car in october. The new features include being able to use the standard ipod cable for playback, etc. No need for the split cable.

I haven't been able to speck the USB option, I was just trying to get a solution that would charge my iPhone and output music via Aux with the minimum of wires - the BMW cable looks the shortest of the lot and it maybe overkill when I could buy the Griffin Autopilot however that's quite bulky and the leads long, that's why I thought of a Micro USB for the CLC (it sits flush) and the BMW cable.
