I tried Tire Rack and their pricing is pretty good (considering....), Tiretrends were ok.

Anybody else?

I've bought from Tire Rack a few times - they're excellent. I've also used TireTrends (when the exchange rate was very low), but their current pricing is not so good. This is the winter set that I'm using:

17x8 Rial Salerno Silver rims
225/45R17 Bridgestone Blizzak WS-60

Total with shipping to Ottawa (no additional taxes or duty) is ~ $1500 USD.

I was thinking of going with 205/50-17's, I live in the outskirts of Ottawa (Cumberland), thinking that a narrower tire is better in snow.

Yea, they're good. What I didn't like about them is the phone quote they give you is a cash or debit price. I run everything through my credit card for the points. They wanted to mark up 3% for credit. I paid debit. Competitors didn't come close to their prices when I bought set of winters with rims last year.

I think size 215/45/17 is better suit the 335's power and handling.

Struggled with exactly that question, went with the 225-17ss from Tirerack last week (I live in Orleans, neighbour

I've used 225's on my 2004 325i for 5 Ottawa winters without problems. However, these were dedicated winter tires (Blizsak WS-50), not performance snow tires like the DUNLOP SP WINTER SPORT 3D tires you are considering.

For Ottawa winters, I prefer the increased traction of dedicated winters (and give up some dry handling) over performance snow tires.

Buy tires from small independent tire shops in Orleans.
613-834-7325.
It's not the width of the tires but the grips that matter in snow.

My local shop (KalTire) is pretty competitive after you figure in exchange, duty, shipping, etc. For and extra $100ish the locally bought tires come with road hazzard, free roataion, etc.

Huh. That just happened to me too. The weights had fallen off one of my wheels when they arrived. Thanks for the heads up.

I run 225/40/18 all around no problem, anything smaller is too puny. Stick some 15mm spacers in the rear and it looks money for winter.
