New car prep and PPFed

Last Thursday I got my car Detailed with New Car Prep from GTA In Detail and PPF from Advanced Mobile Group, thanks to Kevin and Marco respectively for doing a great job...

Since its a new car prep the car is still fairly new so before and after pics wouldn't be day and night difference.

One thing I can comment is that when Kevin was doing the clay bar there were plenty of contaminants, which I would never have thought that it was that much. I did the European Delivery and then the shipping of the car.

Looks good, the venture shield is a must investment for any hwy driving. It has saved my frontend a couple of times now.

full hood > half

I never understood why anybody would just do half IMO makes the car look bad....but doing the full hood is a great idea (investment)

The thing is that not a lot of places actually do full hoods. I did a lot of research before going with Advanced Mobile Group. Not to mention it can get quite expensive but then again its really worth it.

5 yrs from now after XXXXX kms on the hwy most likely the hood and front bumper will still look good.

How expensive are we talking about here? I'm sure it's under $1k to get the bumper and hood done with labour?

Doubtful - the kit alone for bumper, full hood & fenders likely costs close to, or over $1k; almost no one does 60" film, and even less do 60" film kits. My guess is for venture plus (the clear coated stuff), full front end (hood, fenders, bumper, all lights), the kit is ~$900 by itself.

The other option is to use bulk film, but most bulk film looks pretty terrible, and you would have to custom cut everything.

FWIW, I used to think clear bras were overpriced, but now that I know what the quality film costs (particularly the kits, since you have to pay for them and pay for the licensing), I don't. Most guys who do it well charge a labor rate equivalent to most good detailers/tinters, etc.

Your car looks really good. Love the colour. Damn, I never considered doing this clear bra thing, but now I am. Any recommendations where I could get the full hood treatment if I wanted to?

Yup http://*****************************/ call Marco tell him you saw pics of my car

I notice you are waiting for your car, I really suggest doing this, I didn't drive my car in the 401 until I got this done however I did drive in the Autobahn for 2600kms but no stone chips at all!

Thanks, I'll tell Marco when the time comes. Yeah, the wait is killing me. I was supposed to get it on Sept. 20, but looking at November now. Although, some of the latest iDrive features will be coming in this post-Sept. build (cover flow, bluetooth audio, etc...), so I'm not too upset.

Thinking of keeping this car long term, and the clear bra idea is starting to look pretty good. I'm totally jealous of the ED experience btw! I'll have to do that sometime in my lifetime (hopefully w/ an M3 - ha ha)

It also depends on the brand of car...

I know for the Panamera, the moment I said "Porsche" I would immediately get a quote for $1000 for the front bumper, and 1/4 hood + fenders; and the Panamera is not that complex an install.

The same job on my 335i was half that. I did end up finding someone who used the latest stuff from avery, and did it at a reasonable cost; ie. 1/2 that with a superior product and great installl, and cash


As far as whole hood goes, I like paint, I like seeing paint, so I prefer minimal clear-bra (1/4 hood, fenders, and bumper, bumper is a must); otherwise, a chip here and there on a 3 series never hurt anyone.

Even a Porsche, its there to be used -- run the thing into the ground over 10-15 years!

Nice car btw, looks cool.

.....but the rest of the car will look 5 years old...............Like putting plastic on your couch IMO. To each his own.........

True, but what would you usually do when you get a bunch of stone chips on your hood/bumper? Leave it or repaint it? If you repaint it then your hood/front bumper will look "new". So its pretty much the same thing. Unless you are going to repaint the whole car which is not feasible.

Also stone chips on the hood that expose the metal is a rust waiting to happen. You can only patch the chip so much.

Putting plastic on the couch is totally different story cause you can see it and it looks UGLY! Or some ppl still leaving the plastic on their laptops

With the PPF you don't recognize its there

I disagree that the rest of the car will look worse than the PPF'd areas. If properly maintained you should be able to pull the PPF off in 5 years and see now appreciable difference. I had my first PPF on my car for ~18 months, 40k km, and when I took it off there was no perceptible difference at all between the covered and non covered areas.

Then again, I think we've had this conversation before.

Sorry to bump this up.

Just wondering what the consensus is on doing this on a 3yr old car after the fact. There are a few smaller chips (majority of them from the cruise this weekend), that I would touch up and I'm scheduled with WesR to do his 2-day miracle work at the beginning of June.

Is something like this worth it?
