It's a pity they don't mark alloy wheels with the VIN either invisibly or stamped onto the rims. I guess it is something you can do later though with an invisible marker and then pop some lacquer over it?

I was thinking the same. How hard would it be to get your reg engraved on the inside? Would be easy to see who they got knicked from then

VIN would be the best, as that would never change. Although I guess make sure it's not on a lacquered part! Back of the "spokes"/centre hub is usually not treated and where the manufacturer put all their stuff?
