this recall is probably bs to clear the name in front of media and avoid law suites...i believe hpfp issue is still present and recall will not fix it. bmw had issues with hpfp for 4 years and right after the news coverage they issued a recall......scumbags

This is like the sub-frame problem on E46. My E46 is a 1999 and until now only has 70,000 miles. I had the sub-frame reinforced and found out anyway that it was starting to tear. I was unfortunately ineligible because I am running non OEM wheel size. Just pathetic BMW. I paid on my own which I labeled it as a yearly car expense.

And now this issue?!

Any marketing fools in BMW corporate knows that word of mouth is the most powerful form of advertising. I will reluctantly advise others on a BMW in the future. For me, the near future will consist of Audi or some cheap car.

My understanding is that the 535 has the n54/55 engine and does fail

I've Also read that the 750i uses direct injection and it's fuel pump is prone to failure

The 740 uses the n55 engine too

I had the dreaded shaky idle + engine power down (half-engine symbol) a few weeks back. Took the car in.

They ended up replacing three injectors plus associated spark plugs, and updating the software.

The car now has much much smoother idle than before. And get this: I'm getting +4 MPG average from before the fix!
I used to get 20.x MPG, I now get 24.x MPG under the same conditions....
So there's that benefit, at least.

Just so everyone knows, I took my car in today because I made an appointment before the recall. SA told me he might hang on to the car to see what BMW wants to do, as he was told as of this moment they don't have clear instructions on what the process will be. But, my injectors we're just replaced as well.

Not that I confuse technicians with engineers (even they can't seem to be able to figure this one out), but don't let the opinion of a few lead you to make generalizations about them all. I've asked 2 techs what they thought and they were actually pretty educated about it - both mentioned the discrepancies about repeated failures in some cars with long lasting pumps in others as particularly confusing. Either way, with regard to this issue, it's not a tech's job to know what causes HPFP failures, just to properly install a new one in when BMW approves it

I just filled out this form on ABC to contact Nightline and complain about how BMW is being dishonest about this recall regarding their investigative story.

Everyone should do the same so ABC can do a follow up story on this!

BMW was already doing what is outlined in the recall prior to the ABC investigation. The recall is nothing more than semantics meant to appease the media. Yup, just another software fix it. I took my car into the dealership yesterday because it threw a SES light. MY SA said that there is a recall on my car and they would have to do a software update before anything else to see if it gets rid of the SES.

I'm thinking the software "fix" is the software implementation some of us got a few months ago... I may be wrong about that though. Wasn't that the software that primed the pump? If so, it's not going to help very much. After just a few months with the new software on the "new" pump (they're still doling out 933's), my HPFP failed pretty badly.
