Employees Steal $4,000,000 of Parts From BMW Munich

interesting article on autodebut.com about how BMW employees have been stealing millions from BMW factory in Munich, for years.

http://autodebut.com/2010/bmw-employ...worth-of-gear/

Quote:
A group of 18 employees have been caught stealing from the BMW assembly line in Munich, Germany totaling a sum of $4,000,000 in parts. If that’s not interesting enough then how about this. They’ve been doing it for years.

The employees would call in fake quality control checks, stop the whole assembly process, and make off with the goods and then sell them in various markets. Interior seating was the most popular and highest-yielding product that was stolen and sold.

BMW’s very own internal investigators figured this out, but it wasn’t until the thieves made off with $4,000,000. Three employees are currently in custody.

They must have believed in the Johnny Cash song "One piece at a time"

Not unexpected. VW had a similar problem a few years ago with navigation systems.

The Turkish mafia has been pretty active in the German metalworkers union so it was just a matter of time before problems at BMW came to light. MB had this problem years ago too.

razor blades are known to be a good haul in the trucking business. The $4 mil. is nothing, BMW only passes the shrinkage on to the consumer in the form of higher list prices, and denied warranty claims. What is worse is what they did to cars' quality when they falsely halted the assembly line.

Stolen Parts at BMW Factory?

Wow! I hope I didn't inadvertently buy any of this stuff! (I kid...). Crazy story.

I'm glad they got to the bottom of this! Now they can put their resources back to HPFP resolutions

When I used to work at Target years ago, even they had cameras all over the stockroom.
