Why does BMW not paint and clear coat under hood etc ? - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

I love German cars, My 335xi is my Third Bmw and I have a 1m on order. I have owned Audis and VW'S as well. I sell Porsche, Bentley, Rolls and Lambo.
I always noticed that Porsche Audi and VW Paint and clear coat the body color of the car into the engine compartment and under the rear trunk lid etc. Anyone know why BMW does not do this ? Under my hood and trunk lid is just grey Primer.

I am the only owner car was incoming car, on the vessel and was at port for one day before arrival to dealership. I picked it up the day it came off the truck.

Go to the dealer and check another new car of the same build date.

This might be a running change. My 09 isn't "clearcoated" either - it has a matte finish.

Lighter colors have better heat rejection so what you see a "gray primer" may actually be intentional to reduce heat on the underside of the hood.

Here is a under the hood picture of a E90 loaner with a July 2010 build date . It's painted with matte finish with no clear coat. Can you post a picture of your hood so we can see what it looks like?

Is your car grey?

I remember my old e46, and it was steel blue all over.

It's painted the same color as the body of the car on every car, except it's not cleared under the hood. I bet your car is silver, space gray or a similar color right?

My the underside of my hood is painted but no clear coat...same goes for the trunk.
