Hasn't worked for me. However scoche makes an adapter that will connect to your USB cord and the BMW iPod adapter and charge the phone. eBay it! I'm sorry I can't remember what it's called exactly.

I'm not sure if this helps, but my iPhone 4 can be charged with the adapter - assuming we are talking about the same one. I got one from the dealership, it has a USB and aux plug on one end, and the iPhone plug on the other.

It charges mine in my '08...

It charges mine in my '08 E92 non-iDrive. It does however give an error message upon connecting, but once you dismiss it, everything is fine. Warning to jailbroken users though: I found that if you are running a custom theme via summerboard, the iPod function is very glitchy and would not play at all in the car. When I disabled the theme, everything worked perfectly.
