09 335i Alarm Question

I tried to search but came up with nothing so please don't flame me if this has been discussed before.

I have an 09 E90 335i with a production date of 5/09. I know these cars aren't prewired for alarm like older cars are (my 08 E92 was), and the person who ordered the car didn't choose the alarm option. do I have any ability to install/retrofit the OEM alarm? I think it would be a poor business decision that if you didn't order it originally they'd prevent you from ever installing it.....

you can do it but it involves running wires all over the place - up into the headliner (for the LED and motion sensor), to right rear tire (for the siren), under the hood (for the hood pin switch)... There are directions on here somewhere.

There's also a PDF of the retrofit. Many BMW dealers don't even know that you can retrofit this.

Considering the prewired retrofit is like $600 with parts and labor, I'd really only consider doing this if you can do it yourself.

The dealer says "the alarm only cherps, doesn't give you very much added security", but I beg to differ.

I haven't seen a DIY for it, but it doesn't look too hard... looks like a good day's worth of work to run the wire

Yes you can install using the retrofit kit. Kit will need to be ordered through importer because BMWNA does not sell that part. If your car does not have Comfort Access you will also need the accessory harness. Also some dealers will refuse to activate the alarm when installed using retrofit kit. Check with your dealer first.

BMW chose to delete the wiring beginning with 4/09 production due to value engineering. I agree that it was a bad choice on their part, nevertheless they did it!

I did the retrofit and it is a lot of work (PITA). However if you're a DIY type of person or want to pay someone for all the hours of labor then go for it. Otherwise walk away.
