BG 44K

Anybody ever use it?

Went to my local dealer the other day to buy oil and filter and saw they were selling it. Heard some good things about it, so I picked up a can and practically coughed after he rang it all up. 20+ $ for 11 ounces. Thought it would be like 7 or 8. Took a look online and saw it was being sold for ~20$ so dealer isnt that far off. Ended up spending 90 for 8 qts oil, filter, and this can.

Anyways, best time to use it? Before oil change, after, doesn't matter? At what mileage? Have fairly low miles (5300 or so), so I may not see any benefit to using it just yet. Should I hold off till 10k? Thx.

I've used it - but typical usage is at much higher mileage. I'd suggest once a year.

YMMV

I have used it in both cars and motorcycles to clean either injectors or just gummy slides in a carb. In the case of the car (injectors), it had over 100K on it. For the motorcyle (carbs) about 30K.

Were you able to see any difference , or you just presume it worked?

Definite difference - but both my cases were pretty extreme. I think once a year may be a good idea as "preventative maintenance".

Thanks. I think I'll wait till I rack up a few more miles. Once a year sounds good to me.

I second that it works. I added a can of this stuff in to my 325i that had 80k miles at the time and it feelt great! im at 97k miles now and it still feels great if not better! the car was starting to feel a bit slow and slugish but after a can of this stuff thats not the case any more. YOu have to give it time to work its way through the entire fuel system. You might not feel it right way but it will restore lost preformance and fuel economy will pick up as well.

BG44K is one of thefew additives that actually does anything - which may be scary.

Most manufacturers now-a-days do not recommend using any additives yet most dealers sell additives to boost their bottom line.

I've used BG44k in a handful of vehicles and it ultimately diid seem to improve performance. It is best to use it about 1000 miles before an oil change.

I have no clue how good it is for the car though.

I would add the cheveron techron cleaner to that list as well but BG44k is still a few steps above and I do agree with you most additives now a days are complete crap.

I'm going to get either the Techron or BG44k. I read somewhere that with BG44k, you should change your oil fairly soon after use... is that true? I changed my oil about 1k miles ago, so I wont be changing it again for awhile. Should I just use Techron this time, then before next oil change, try BG44k?

Techron is the same - change the oil after use. Best to wait until you're less than 1,000 mls from a change and use the BG. Then run a tank of fuel through after the BG, and change the oil.

Contaminants from the cleaning, and the cleaner itself wind up in the oil. Best not to leave that in for a full cycle. Instructions on Techron cleaner recommend using just prior to changing oil for this reason.
