It was only 13.5 to be honest mate. Mods were 1500 total, so it was more.... like I said though, its not a like for like comparison, but its ballpark for sure.

Marlie, diff was 1200 but was on the car when I bought it so isn't counted in the 1500 listed above lol...

Sorry, but the 'arse' on the Megane has not aged well at all.

Golf designs seem to be timeless (albeit safer)

lol fair enough, but do behave. By kit I mean things to entertain oneself.... the brakes on an R26 are worse than an R32, the diff is not used in 99% of driving situations and every car has suspension made by Bilstein, Koni or whoever - its just not branded.

By kit I was referring to driver entertainment. It has a terrible stereo, no mp3 support or aux, no sat nag options, no leather, no heated seats, no dab, etc etc etc. The R26 is a great car. I loved it and I advocate them strongly for certain things.... but for commuting etc, with the odd burst of pleasure? Nah.

Matt, you do talk sense most of the time...but not this. The diff can actually be felt in most driving situations (it's quite odd at first) but it's fantastic the way it just drags you round bends, killing understeer and keeping the car pinned to the apex.

These cars are seriously good to drive - not the quickest or the best built or even have nicest 'kit' but by'eck they handle. And it's the diff that makes it (try a pre-R26 regular 225 to feel the difference).

I'm not sure of you noticed mate but I've owned an R26 and my Golf has an LSD fitted now so I'm fairly up to speed. The R26 was the first and only brand new car I've ever owned - to say I researched them would be an understatement. From a driving perspective, my Focus ST which followed really did miss having an LSD and didn't last long.

Anyway, were splitting hairs based on a throwaway comment. What I should have said was:

99% of the time you spend in the Megane, you will hate the shit seats, wank plastic dash, tinny speakers, lack of any options whatsoever even despite the slightly better handling and more enjoyable delivery. I was essentially saying that a diff is lovely, but most of the time you won't miss it..... everything else however, you will.

You can fit a diff to a Golf. But you can't put options in a Megane no matter what you do.
