Windscreen repair - no claims scepticism...

Getting Autoglass out on Monday to fix a chip on the Landy windscreen. We're covered for this with our insurance, Directline - do they REALLY not affect your no claims and do we now have to state we've made a claim when we renew or change insurers? I'm very sceptical after getting stung big time for a no fault claim a while back.

Non insurance repair would be about 100ish which I'll pay if our insurance is in any way affected.

I'd be interested to know the answer to this.

I have a small chip on the 335 that needs seeing to. I looks like it could "grow".

some companies ask you to pay an excess fee for the replacementglass others dont - will say on your schedule
it normally doesnt affect your no claims at all
the chip fix is normally free and they will fix it as long as its not in the direct vision area of driver i think
stop worrying!!!

It's won't (shouldn't) affect your NCB

You DO have to declare it as a claim though at renewal time and it may affect your premium (but not your NCB discount) depending on insurer.

PS

Direct Line have a 10 excess for repairs

Get it fixed ASAP otherwise (as I found out) they can and do go from a chip to a crack at which point you have no choice but to replace the whole screen.

With Directline, it won't alter you NCB, but does go against you as a claim, as I found out many years ago.

I was just about to have one done on my Touran but I think that I will leave it now as it has gone through 2 cold winters without getting any worse. i really don't want to give the Insurance companies any more excuses. First Direct promised to beat my car insurance quote and tehn turned me down because my wife is a journalist.

It was 40 degree heat that turned mine from a chip to a crack!

I had a chip repair done free of charge and a windscreen change with a 90 excess using morethan.

Neither seemed to effect my renewal.

I had a chip repaired on the 330d and a new windscreen on the RX8 and haven't had a problem. I've just switched insurer to Swift, from Aviva, and had to declare it, didn't make any difference to my NCB or premium.
