I hate the stretch look, to me it seems like you bought the wrong wheels for your car and got stuck putting undersize skinny tires on them so you could still use them. I think it's become a bragging rights thing with wheel width... oh you have 10, well I have 10.5, oh yeah well I have 11... oh and we're all running the same or less tire than the guy on 9.5 but we're cooler because our wheels are wider..
Is that going to rub? I would love to do a set of the M6 reps, but I don't want to have clearance issues or the "tire-holding-on-for-dear-life" look. And I don't want to deal with rolling the fender.

I have a pre-LCI E90 so I've got a bit more room than an E92. From my research a 275 is pretty safe for me (I've seen it done on E92s as well, but it's very close depending on offset & specific tire profile). Once I have the 275s on and can test out the clearances through full travel of the suspension, I'll determine whether 285s are a viable option. I don't think you've got any chance of a 285 on an E92 without rolling your fenders at a minimum.

My last car was dropped, my current one only has lowering perches to even out the wheel gap. Does that make me a modder?

I completely understand people who leave cars stock, less headache. I also totally understand people who heavily mod their cars because it's fun. I think it depends a lot on what you start with: if your car is a base 328 with halogens, 16" rims, no sport package etc., you will most likely mod it, just to make it look better. If you have a ZCP M3, there's a big chance you won't change anything.

I opted for ZMP 335D so there's no big need to change many things.

Another stocker here! 6-speed 2006 325xiT, only "mods" are 17x8 BBS wheels, and CDV delete.

I have modded cars, and left cars stock...I guess it's all about what mood I'm in or what I feel like doing. These days, I'd rather drop $3k on a project for the house or put it towards a vacation versus some wheels or other stuff.

For now, it stays stock.

Me to

I've always felt the most sporty OEM look is best. Example... I have factory stagered 19s on my 08 e92 335 with the sport suspension. Looks perfect to me

There are some threads on here where the OP, who has modded his car in dramatic ways, receives pages and pages of supportive feedback and I'll I can think to myself is "man that is the ugliest thing I've ever seen."

The beauty of individualism!

I used to be a stocker...but then....

1. bmw m shift knob -- better shifting
2. bmw performance exhaust - wanted the german souless car to come aliive a bit, add some colour
3. oem m3 lip spoiler at rear - wanted a more aggressive yet classy rear
4. jbspeed oem front splitters - wanted more aggressive front to complement my personality/driving style

now

5. likely 18 or debating 19 (probably go 18 because 19 is wayy too stiff) STYLE 313 RIMS for summer since my winters are bent....prob go 18" 313 NON RUN FLAT.

its just about individuality i guess.

Not really a tune but yeah, with factory software tweaks it puts out more power than the regular n54. So does the n54 in these models too... Z4 35is, 335is and the 740i/Li.

Now performance is another story. If you tell me that a chip or program, or a header will give me 100 more hp (ok 50 would be fine) for $1000, I'm for it as long as I have to make no compromise. I guess my ultimate point is form follows function. It took 100s of geeky German engineers (and we know they are pretty serious) to design and build a quality machine like a BMW, but some 19 y.o. brat thinks he can do better? Really??

Also, individuality is huge to me, but it seems like once you join to Too Fast TOOO Furious crowd, you are now just another one of them. Granted, me and the rest of the stockers fit in with the grannies who don't mod anything, but the modding for individuality seems like a self-defeating proposition. Wow, I slammed it, now I'm just like everyone else who has to do that.

I guess next question should be, with all the above in mind, are there any mods you guys suggest that are 1. actually make you look more individual without trying to look individual, 2. allow for greater performance in some regard, however small (even audio), not necessarily engine related, and 3. are worth the $ (thousands for mods that do essentially nothing are a waste to me.).

AGAIN, NO JUDGEMENT TO THOSE WHO MOD. I am totally supportive of others self-expression.
This posts reminds of when people go "i'm not a racist but....." and then go on to say the most blatantly racist thing ever.

My 335i is stock except for matte black grills, matte black vinyl trim, and tint. The only thing I want now is blacklines, then I'll be happy.

i like modding but in such a way, so that the car still looks like it could have come from the factory like that.... don't know i you get what i'm saying.

for example, all i have are black out grilles, M3 spoiler and Alufelgen SF71 which are loosely based on CSL wheels, all of which, BMW sells or has sold at some time

I think that "modding" is okay...as long as its done with quality upgrades. I can't tell you how many of my friends mod their cars just for the sake of doing it. They have no regard for the quality of the materials they are slapping on/in their expensive cars.

I personally am only into OEM upgrades because, I think the group of German engineers that designed my car from start to finish are a little bit more qualified than I am. Not to mention that none OEM upgrades cannot legally fit “perfectly” because of patent laws.

I'm saving up my money so I can get perfectly engineered products for my car. My plans are OEM BMW performance exhaust and intake to add a little more growl to my car. I'm looking for either style 196 or 198 wheels for the aesthetics. I recently purchased a home so my upgrades are on hold for a little while.

I try hard to not visit the Photo forum as it makes my skin crawl. My gawd, it's like a "how to" forum to completely cheese out a classy car.

When I was car shopping, I wanted to find a car that looks great from the factory. The 3 series did just that. But I just had to add small things to personalize it (blacklines, black/white roundels, matte black grills, LED AE's, debadge, OEM splitters, exhaust tips). Still has the OEM + look since those mods aren't too extreme.

Better sell the arm you don't shift with for a set of those CH-R's.

You're missing the "LOOK AT ME!" syndrome.

I confess that I'd like to get some Dinan engine/software mods (want to keep that warranty valid), do the M suspension mods for better road feel, install springs/shocks/struts that will stiffen the ride up a touch, and pop in a LSD. Regarding the look of the car, though, I like it a lot the way it is.
