new Audi RS4 Avant spotted!

Can't tell anything about the design because this is just a S4 body. However, the bigger brakes are a clue that it's the next RS4 in testing. I wonder if Audi will give the RS4 a new engine. I think they will keep the RS5 V8 450bhp unit in this. I just hope they keep the weight down!

This is the S4 body not the final design. I know what you mean though about the old model. The wide arches looked mean!

The B7 RS4 was an amazing car. If the LCI didn't come out, I'd probably take the B7 over the pre-facelift M3 and save some cash.

The older RS4 just had more of a muscular presence. Maybe they'll change that for the final design on this one but IDK. Seems like they are just making them sleeker rather than muscular.

You do realise that this isn't the finished shell and that the arches will indeed be wider than seen here, infact look closely at the rear ones and you will see extentions have been added.

No one does fast estates like Audi and this one will be no exception.

Hmm....the RS4/RS5 engine is fabulous but I think its time to move on the next big thing. The rumored 4.0Turbo V8 in the S6 would do just fine. Then we would be able to say "HOly Torque''.

I would assume Audi would shoot for a blown engine, seeing as they'd make more use out of higher torque figures with their AWD.

I wish Audi was monitoring our conversation and imply what we adviced.

But in reality, RS4 would be either fitted with the current S4's supercharged V6 with a bigger supercharger or Audi TT-RS turbo 5 with higher output of 400+.

I don't think a 4.0T V8 is feasible but I would be glad if they prove us wrong.

Both those options appeal to me but word has it that the decision to use the same 4.2FSI from the RS5 was decided months away. Whether things have changed and they have changed this orginial decision is something I haven't heard but I suppose anything is possible.

Interesting how now all RS model come without foglights, just as BMW M models, started by the M3 CSL... I am not excited about this car, but am sure this could be footies next car. He owned an S4 and praises the RS5. RS4 Avant is the perfect car for him, unless he prefers his new Cayenne, which is, until the new X5 F40 comes out, the best looking SUV, and also the best built one.

I doubt it ........... unless it came with a FI engine. I have no interest what so ever in hi-revving N/A engines, especially in a practical family estate.

So you're saying you don't like them at all? What about your precious R8?

I'm not a fan of N/A engines, I think it's well known on here what I thought of the 4.0v8 in my M3 and that option is carried over to the RS5. But while I dislike them I can still see a need for them in a traditional sport car like the R8, F430, etc. The whole reason for a sportscar is to get in and ring it's neck at every opportunity but the likes of the M3, RS4/5 are too practical for such an engine in my opinion, the role they need to fulfil is too broad for a mid-sized N/A engine, Mercedes are the only one that understood this and rightly increased capacity to get the desired amount of flexibility needed.

I hope it gets a V8 and not their silly supercharged V6. Or even their turbo I5 that is so lovely.

I think footie will buy the next M3 F3X: FI I6. Oh, wait, he prefers V6 over I6, and AWD over RWD.
