Hello everybody,

I was preparing my calipers for painting today, and unfortunately I cut wire of the rear brake pad sensor.

I am going to the BMW saloon tomorrow to buy the brake pad sensor and I will try to install it, but I have a few question :
1. Do I need to take the brake pad out when installing the sensor ?
2. I could not see any join connection for the sensor. What should I take off to find the join connection for the sensor ?
3. Would a new sensor be ok for an old brake pads, which are worn ? Maybe I need to sand it down so it is the same thickness as the old one ?
4. Would the warning light on a dash dissapear once the sensor is installed ?

I would really appreciate your help...

1. No, it pushes in - really simple.
2. Remove the black plastic wheel arch lining. The connector box is behind.
3. The pads are less than 50% worn? It might be okay, just try it first
they do not contact the disc until pads are quite low.

It's a really simple job to do, I did mine for the first time only a few weeks back. Just pop the sensor out of the side making sure you bring the small copper reatining clip out with it. As said above, you need to undo a few screws in the wheelarch cover to get behind it but it doesn't need to come out totally. Pop the new sensor in and then work your way back swapping the old and new sensor cable over, swap the plug behind the arch cover and you're done. Go in to the service menu and reset it, job done.

The only time you can't reset the service menu fully is if the sensor is part worn but with a new sensor you'll be fine.

The new sensor from BMW saloon was slightly different and it was hard to push it in, on its place, but after couple of minutes I managed it
