Scuffed Roundel! Help!
I recently scuffed/scratched the roundel on my steering wheel. It's not very deep or terribly obvious, but it's still there and it's bothering me. The dealership told me it was integrated into the steering wheel and could not be easily replaced. Has anyone ever had this problem and found a product to polish out the scratch without destroying the airbag cover? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Prying it off is not something I'm willing to try. The dealer informed me the roundel is an integral part of the airbag deployment system, and screwing it up will result in a massive repair bill. The scratch runs from the middle right to the top left, more or less. I was looking for some sort of product that might allow for polishing, or something similar.

If you don't know what you are talking about then please don't give the OP "advice" that will end up costing him several hundred dollars. The roundel is permanently affixed to the airbag cover. The airbag cover is only available in the US with the airbag so you're looking at $800-$1000 if you pry the roundel off. The proper way to fix this depends on the damage. A picture would help. You can use a clear overlay (like a screen protector for a cellphone) cut to size or you could try to lightly polish it out using plastic polish |

The way to reduce the appearance of a scratch is to either round off the sharp edges or to fill it in. There are a few things you can try. "As seen on TV" stores (in malls) sell this brush on liquid intended to make scratches on eyeglasses invisible. It doesn't work, but it does work to make scratches like this less visible. Harley Davidson stores sell Plexus plastic polish which works well. I use Polywatch (for polishing plastic watch crystals) but that isn't that easy to find. Have you tried just a regular wax? A picture would really help to see how bad it is. |

Thanks for showing us a picture proving that it is not a sticker. What is your point? Here is a wiki description of a "sticker" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sticker |

I dont know for all those who seems to know what they're talking about but I removed my logo from the airbag; prying it slowly over a credit card with NO damage.
And I took the replacement cf roundel who came in a STICKER format to the airbag cover for a SPOT ON mod. So; I dont know for everybody else, but this is how I changed my roundel.

During an airbag deployment, the cover moves upward and anything that isn't permanently attached might go flying through the cabin. A sticker can't hurt, right? If a piece of paper can give you a paper cut how much damage can a flying roundel (with a nice sharp edge) do to your jugular? An eggshell can cut paint and I can drive a straw through an egg given the right angle. |
