Idrive Update?

Hi!

The reason I want an Idrive update is because:
1) I really like the function and the layout of the new idrive system
2) When I listen to musics through the AUX output, it keeps jumping back to radio and it gets very loud, but this doesnt happen very often though.

However, the dealer says if they dont notice any problem and they will charge me for the labour (250 for 2 hrs and diagnose) even my car is still under warranty..

Is there anyway that I can update the Idrive myself cus if I am right, the idrive can be updated using a DVD software (but i don't know where to get it...)?

So...shall i still bring it to the dealer or what should I do?

PS. its a 2007 e92 335i.

Thanks!
Barton

The new Idrive is a complete overhaul of the entire system electronically. It's not even DVD based, so there's no way you could update it with a DVD. There is a DIY on the forums here; in the US you can be expected to be out-of-pocket at least a couple grand, and that's considering you're doing all labor yourself and you get a good deal on some salvaged parts.

Not possible without killing yourself and a bunch of reprogramming. Buy a new car so you get the new iDrive.

As for me, I love the one I have, first time I've ever had nav in a car. And I drive the car for the car, electronics come second.

What model year is your car? The CCC update between 06 and 09 made my CCC iDrive much faster and the new colors look better.

If you're talking about the CCC to cic update then you have to make hardware changes like the others above mentioned.

I had my dealership update my 07 idrive the latest DVD-based model specs. I complained about not being able to play MP3's and intermittent idrive freeze/missing arrows.

It took all day, due to reprograming. However my gas mileage went up marginally and there was a faster idrive response time. Along with other cosmetics/different font in the gauge cluster.

ok.... so let me get it right first.

This means there is no way to update my iDrive to the latest iDrive without getting new hardware? And updating the iDrive only means change of colour and the response time?

If this is the case I think I better leave it.... or buy a new CAR! hahaha XD

O also, what are CCC and CIC? I have been doing some research but I still cant figure out what they are, lol

You can update your iDrive knob to the new one with the short cuts on the controller.

But if you didn't know this already...you can hold the iDrive knob toward to section you want to select.

For example, if you are in the audio menu and want to jump to the nav menu, if you hold the knob to the right, it will bring you to the last screen it was on when you exited (pressed menu button).

Can anyone put a picture of the old CCC idrive, and the new updated CCC Idrive after the update? I just want to see the change in colors to see if I have the old CCC or the new CCC. Thanks!

Bump. I'm interested in seeing this as well. Also have 2 questions:
  1. How/where do I check what version/update is my current CCC?
  2. Will a dealer update to latest CCC free of charge if car is still under maintenance/warranty?
  3. If update is free, can I just ask for it or do I have to complain that there's something wrong with the current version?
