So the main question that's on everyone's mind:
Have you noticed any difference in the way the car drives? |

Thank you! I've been wondering how hard the IM is to take off to be able to do this and now I am much more comfortable with doing this on my own. I definitely need to do this and then install an OCC and some meth

Took me all day but I was in no rush. Took a couple breaks when they were soaking etc. Someone could easily do it in 5 hours if they timed it and was in a hurry. |

Very nice, thanks! A must for high mileage cars, my car will definitely be a bit happier in a month
![]() Probably should expect less buildup on NA cars, no? |

Your best way would be to turn the crank, believe it's a 22 mm socket. Have to do it from under the car, removing the belly pan |

Great DIY. Your steps and pictures were clear and had no issues except the throttle body body which you help me work through (Thanks!). Great product and valves are now nice and clean

I want to do this to my car, but it just seems like a lot of work and time. Seems like the cost is so low for a high reward though. I'm torn, but I dont think my wife will give me a full day to wrench on the car with a 6month old.
I wonder if this was a process of CPO cars...that would be awesome |

But maybe you can do it like I did and do it a few hours a day over the course of a few days/weeks? I have no kids, but I am pretty busy and have no garage where i live. so i've using my parents garage. I did 4 hours last saturday, and 2 sunday. i think im about 70% done (but i should be able to finish this saturday). I have a spare car though, so having my 335i out of commision for a while is only a psychological problem. but I do think it will be worth it after seeing the mess that was inside of those valves... =O |

Finally finished today, I dont know if it is just a placebo effect, but to me the car feels more responsive than before! It is just like the OP said, it is "slight" but noticeble. But I dont have any proof other than my memory of how the car felt before and how it feels now... but I'm definetly glad I did it.
Also a tip for you guys with manual trannys. In order to get the valves to close put the car in 5th or 6th gear and push it until the valve is fully closed (it should be a bit heavier than if it was in neutral but not by much). I tested if the valve was closed by dropping a tiny bit of seafoam in the valve afterwards. But if you have a bright flash light it is rather easy to see if it is open or closed. |

A few questions for you if you don't mind concerning 6 AT: I read elsewhere in another thread on this same topic that you have to be careful turning the crank by its bolt do to it possibly being reverse threaded (i.e. NOT your standard "righty-tighty" "lefty-loosy" threading). Something about utilizing a tool in the slots machined into the wheel around the bolt to turn it instead of the bolt itself. Is this accurate. Does the crank need to turn in a CW fashion then but not necessarily by using the bolt? Also I'm assuming you'd have to disengage the tranny by putting the car in N. Is that a possibility with the car off without any special disengagement of a shift lock or similar? Thanks! |
