E91 grills/blacklines genuine v copies

Am looking to buy some blacklines and to change the grills from chrome to gloss black on my 56 plate E91.
Have been checking prices and there is obviously a massive difference in price between buying oem via bmw and copies from the tinterweb.
My question is,what are your thoughts on buying copies-do they all tend to be poor quality and a false economy(even with the Anneka discount) or are we being massively ripped off and they are of similar quality?
In relation to what I'm after,as we're talking pieces of plastic, how bad can copies of these specific parts, actually be?
I'd be interested in thoughts from people who have actually bought parts rather than those with just an opinion!
Any pointers to any decent distributors would be appreciated-but only if they're tried and trusted-cheers!

I've got some non-genuine black grilles on order - as soon as they arrive I'll let you know. I've never seen fake darklines though...

I bought genuine BMW performance black grills for my E91, they were only £40 for the pair from my local dealer

Is that really 'vastly' expensive for pukka parts?

No, that's really cheap-I've seen them priced at £90 and copies at around £30,hence the question in the first place!

I would stick with genuine for something so prominent as a front grille, you don't want something that doesn't fit perfect stuck up there so obvious on the front of your car.

I agree re the car looking right and money isn't an option-it's just that I hate the thought of paying over the odds for something relatively simple.
However,as mentioned, the grills are only £40, that's the same price as none oem parts.
Will wait for my pm from Anneka!

How come you getting all those things for such a good price ? which dealer do you use ? or do you get special discount ?.

Would be really intrested to go to that dealer for such prices.

Doughboy-ditto the above. Can you post up where you got your grills from,so that we can all benefit-I will order straight away.
They are less than half the price that I have been quoted-which is obviously a "vastly" inflated price compared to what you paid-will wait for your post...

Hi,

For me as above, (davyk31) for such a prominent item, I would only purchase OEM.

I bought a set (through another BMW owners forum and their site sponsors) cost about £70 iirc.

Before buying, researched quite a few different ones from various outlets and price, but more importantly feedback.

Whilst not a sweeping generalistaion, but the old addage:' you get what you pay for' is usually true.

Cheaper copies (not in all cases) are poorer quality, both in terms of materials used, finish and most importantly fit.

Paying a bit extra for genuine parts at least offers a degree of safeguard and you always have recourse of a main dealer and the benefits associated with dealing with a large franchise.

Hope this helps .... T

It does help,yes-as you've been in the same position as me!
Will wait for some updates from people who have actually bought and lived with the spurious items, but it seems oem for me!

That's a two for one price. Are you sure they didn't cock that up?

Just though, LCI cars only need 2 pieces.

Pre LCI has 4 pieces needed:

My LCI ones were £19 each + VAT about a year ago from Williams BMW in Manchester.

Maybe they've gone up since then?

That's solved that then.
Unfortunately,I need four parts-certainly not £40!
This is part of the reason that I posted this thread- does an extra two small pieces of plastic warrant the extra £40?

As said, if the fit & finish isn't 100% spot on it will look shite.

And its stuck right on the front of your car for everyone to see.

Dealer will usually always give 10% off if you ask nicely, just try it.

No worries-quoted £81.29 via Anneka-cheapest I've seen for oem.
Blacklines are mega bucks though!
