idrive disclaimer? - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

Hi all,

Anyone know if its possible to over-ride the initial disclaimer screen on idrive, (either myself or via the dealer) or will i have to "Accept" the risk of using it every time i get in the car?

Dunno why, stupid things like that just bug me

Other than that loving the e93, got in just in time for a Melbourne winter!

there would have to be a way to do it... but c'mon, pressing ONE button when you get in teh car really isn't THAT hard is it?

Per the instruction manual if you don't touch it for a few seconds, like say 30, it goes away on its own.

That's the only over-ride other then the push button.

It's the CYA of the century, every GPS device has it.

I vaguely remember ready there was a solution to this on the X5 forum. It bugs me too Turbo2.

I think it can only be removed via a system update which is country specific.
I have already asked my dealer and he advised that it was to comply with Australian standards requirements. My previous car was an e39 540 and I could remove the startup screen with a modified nav system operating disk.
E39 e46 and X5 used I-Bus for nav and entertainment and this has been hacked by quite a few programmers to achieve things such as customisation removal of start up screen.
E90 and E92 use MOST bus for nav and entertaimenment and I think this is more secure and has not been hacked as yet.

so it is the same reason that alot of the cars have airbag stickers all over them? bmw is covering their asses...

You got it, commonly known as "The Lawyer Screen"
ADR allows visible screens for nav and car functions. Many states have banned TV/DVD screens visible to the driver while in motion however nav and car function displays are exempt. If you crash while looking at the screen you cannot sue BMW.

It's not HARD it's just ANOTHER thing to press. Get in car, press garage door opener, put key in slot, Press start button (extra step), Put seatbelt on, put car in reverse, press "accept" disclaimer (extra step), plug in Ipod (extra step) and press play (extra step), then finally roll the car back out of the garage.

Just a few more buttons to press....

But back to on topic- I too would love to be able to bypass the lawyer screen.

LoL, you sound like you need the BMW comfort access system! No pressing buttons to unlock it, no key in the iginition, there you go, saved heaps of time!

My old man still wants a button he can press from inside the house to start the engine so by the time he goes outside to the car the engine has warmed up (along with the garage probably filling up with carbon monoxide!). lol, i think the comfort access system isnt far off though.

I almost regret not getting it. But I'm not lazy and still get a little excited just getting into the car! So pressing a few buttons is not too bad for the moment. But this time next year- who knows...

Get a can of black spray paint and give your screen a coat. You'll never see it again I promise. Then just learn to use the voice controls for the I-drive functions!

I had a friend in the North of England who had a system like this fitted to his X5. He'd hit the button from the comfort of his kitchen and 10mins later the car was nice an warm. Heated steering wheel, seats, mirrors and the general car heating were all activated via one button.
