Ah, got me there. Originally, I had included that the newer idrive features were introduced with the lci e90, but I edited that out.

I have spent ages working this out and beleive I have the answer.

ALL Nav fitted 3 Series built after September 2008 have the new iDrive. This is easy with Saloon and Touring, as if its LCI, it has new iDrive. However there must have been a load of E92's kicking around in stock because almost none of the 58 plate ones have the new idrive, meaning they were built prior to Sep 08. There are a few but they are very rare. You need to go as far as 09 plate to 'guarantee' the new iDrive.

Right so if I'm looking at M3's I should just aim for 09 on.

That's fine as I'm not looking to buy till December-Feb kind of time

Heh. Didn't expect to come back to a 2 page topic

Well he lied, most 58 plates have them. But not quite all, it would seem (And more true of E92 than E90/E91 from the sounds of this topic)

I don't think he lied Dave, it's more the build sticker on my bonnet is wrong and the V5 has a misprint on it

What features are we thinking of when we say newer iDrive? That will help to figure out where to start looking. The issue with finding an exact date is that the introduction of features was staggered.
I would think it's the new style buttons and interface as that's the only change I know of.

Well mine has it and mine is a 58...

Mega, I have been looking at M3's and I am still finding 09 plates with the old I drive. It seems there are more without it than there are with it.. I am looking at 59 just to make sure...

that will depend on the build date rather than the date of registration. safest bet is to make sure it has a photo of the interior and look for the 7 button idrive, it shouldnt matter when it was registered
