btw -- for those who don't know, it may be a good idea to cap the nipple (where you take off the hose) with a vacuum cap; not sure if it's absolutely necessary, but it certainly couldn't hurt. I bought a bag of rubber vacuum caps at an auto store for ~ $2.

btw -- from what others have said in this and other threads, this mod is more noticeable on the E92 Coupes as opposed to the E90 Sedans; apparently, the exhausts are slightly different (the Coupe doesn't have some extra resonator that the Sedans have or something like that).

I done it on my E90 and my friends E90 too and it louder and deeper about 20%.
As I have four people hearing it ....all of us like the mod sound better. It only cost 3 dollars for a pack of vacuum plugs and 30 sec. We can all hear the different when we are in the car....( E90 sedans) No harm trying ..... for those that can hear it is, good ( I and my friends are happy ) it almost a free mod so no big deal. for those that can't hear it move on or get a cat back .... |

Yes, it's much more noticeable upon a cold start (maybe ~ 20% louder as you said), and then it quites down a bit as the engine warms up and while cruising; it's louder though and I really think it enhances the exhaust note.

On no load I would agree. But on an uphill pull at low revs and little throttle, a drone will occur with the E92. That was the only negative I found and was enough to revert back.

Not me...I think it sounds great; I don't get any droning, but then again, I typically have my Sirius sat radio blaring!

I think if u like the mod and can hear it, is about 20%. If u dislike it and can't hear it.... it goes from 10 to 0%. Is really up to individual not everyone have the same hearing and depend on the road conditions... I drive local, a lot of lights and most is low RPM ...stop and go ... LA traffic. It so easy to put it back if u don't like it ... I think people should try to see for themselves. It not the best sound but not that bad if u want a little more for $3 or free. My friend even tell me mine sounded louder then his ( same E90 ) it all in our head. |

ahhh so i took delivery of my 335i coupe just the other day and of course started pullin stuff apart... i must say the 'golf tee mod' which might as well just be changed to the 'clog up that little black hose with anything u can find' mod...was hands down one of the best things ive done to a car in history. it cost all of 8 cents and made a world of difference in sound. and it took me like...20 seconds... beautiful.

Did the electrical solenoid disconnection in the trunk and car sounds great, why would you want to get your hands dirty and mess with vacuum lines. Also if you want car back to normal it takes 5 seconds to reconnect it. No warnings or CEL etc.

Also, you can plug the solenoid in the trunk with a vaccum cap |

I just did the BB mod. 4.5mm.
The flapper was open when i did it,,, didnt check it out now. Flash light low on juice, and sun is very bright. I dont know about sound/performance. But it did actually take 15 seconds. Just a little harder than dropping in a K&N filter. LOL |

When does the diverter valve open on a 335? Full throttle? IF so, has anyone ran a muffler bypass pipe (removing the drivers side muffler) and retained the diverter valve? In theory I would think you would have a stock sounding car during partial throttle then a mean sounding beast under full throttle. I did this to my 3.6 turbo, removed the wastegate muffler and replaced it with a bypass pipe. It sounded amazing when the wastegate opened. Just curious. THX

I just did this mod...
I just did the bearing method today and I have to say I am happy with the results. I have a sedan and the results are subtle, as expected, but definitely noticeable. The car has much more growl in the lower RPMs. I uploaded some vids on YouTube, but the results are much more noticeable when driving around. Check them out:
