I still cant get over how GM does the worst interiors and yet still charges what they do for their vehicles. That alone, every day, would annoy the sh*t out of me. My grandparents are still buying them and its like going into a time capsule from when I was a construction worker, I think they are still using the same switchgear and whatnot.

They seem to be unkillable. My 850i 6 speed had the original clutch for 115k miles when I replaced it with a brand new OEM one. Car was definitely neglected and abused, and yet the old and new clutch were practically identical.

Only reason they were replaced was because BMW was ceasing production of the E31 6 speed clutch and I wanted a new one in there before they were all gone.

287,585 to be precise. Did the rack. Lost No. 5 IIRC.

Hello!

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but during your time with your E90, do you happen to have the infamous N52 tick and how has that impacted the performance and condition of your engine?

I have a 2006 BMW 325i as well and I've just crossed the 174k mile mark and I plan to keep this car for a while. My engine used to tick only in the winter but it just seems that the tick hasn't gone away. I just did my last oil change with Liquid Moly 5W-40 and Ceratec additive but I seem to find no difference. I am also burning oil at 1 quart per ~1k miles which seems just a little worrisome.

Any input would be extremely appreciated, thank you!

I have no idea. I don't care since all versions of the 5W-30 BMW oil meets BMW LL-01 spec. That's the purpose of a spec.

That ticking is not about oil type but about short trips.

Yeah I do long driving and I recently took a 4 hour trip, my ticking is present when the engine is all warmed up, not when it's cold, which is opposite from what I have read.

I'm thinking about throwing in Lifter additive but I already threw in Ceratec. I was also concerned if the 5W-40 had an effect but many people run Liquid Moly 5W-40 without any issues.

I'm starting to suspect broken lifter but I can't really tell. Seems cheaper to try different oils instead of opening up the engine.

It's just noise; it doesn't damage the valvetrain.

Can you post a video of the ticking? Maybe some people here could help diagnose it.

Thumbs up That's Great!!

I only have 184K on my 2007 N52 E90 (Sport package). Wouldn't replace it for any F series. Your story makes me want to keep mine for a long while!!

I had the valve tick on my 2007 N52. See SI B11 09 07 - https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...50095-9999.pdf

Fortunately I detected it on my car while it was covered by the CPO warrenty (~75K mi).

It has not reoccurred since (184K mi).

If you were ever to sell this OP, I would be interested. But if I were you, I would keep it till the next ice age. Waiting on the 500k mile thread.
