Could look into a new 3-series but they are quite large and a bit numb/less engaging to drive
My Alfa captured the E90's spirit imo. Compact, light, but even more fun to drive thanks to its go kart-like nature and quicker steering. Downside is the lack of a middling 6 cyl engine like the M340

Also, HUGE difference between the MK6, 2014 and older, compared to the MK7 (2015). The 2015 model had the latest motor and it is a massive power difference. Whole car is better than the MK6 actually. After driving both I was no longer interested in the MK6. |

I don't want to stereotype young women but what about an electric Mini? Also agree to the Civic Si idea as long as the older models aren't too inflated for cost.
I'm just thinking typical young person in school needing to get around. If there's a specific need for a 4 door, or AWD, or something extra fun because she wants to track it, then we'd need to know. |

Folks, when making your suggestions don’t forget that the OP said ”wondering what to get in the next 3-4 years or so.”

3 or 4 years form now, it's silly to ask anytime soon. So much could change by then. I don't disagree with you just ignoring it on purpose. |

The rear seat is even as cramped as the e90. Bonus!

Wait. I’m confused.
Is the car for mousefarmer, or his GF’s daughter? If the daughter then shouldn’t she be the one test driving it? In a few years I’d say a nicely sorted G20 could fit the bill. Skip the F30 chassis. Heck, i4’s might even be within reach. |
