My winters are in my basement right now, all shiny from their wheel wax. I kind of want to put them on today, but maybe I'll just wait it out and drive the Ody today and tomorrow. Traffic looked horrible this morning. Thankfully, I have a very short commute (office is moving so that will change soon ).

I drove to work today, very slowly, I only took local roads though, rt 29 then rt 50. Everything seemed ok... I hope it doesn't get worse by 5:00pm...

I've been looking at packages all morning long at work today. I think I am going to pull the trigger on these 17" Sport Edition wheels with Blizzak LM-22's. I'm having an OEM sports susp. put on tomorrow.
I'm gonna be pissed if I get these and it doesn't snow a lot down here though...

I just stayed in to work from home today. Even if I had a 4x4 with snow tires, I'd rather not be out in this ridiculous traffic.
But from what I experienced, the summer runflats are ok up to 1/8" of snow, but 1/3" or more and the E90 slides and fishtails all over. |

I heard from a friend at work who drives an E90 325i with M6 rep wheels. He hasn't switched to snow tires. To quote him, this morning was "the scariest driving experience I have ever had." He said he was fishtailing and sliding everywhere.
Still coming down right now. I'm going to leave early to avoid the mess tonight, and I'll work from home this afternoon. I am still debating putting on my winter wheels today, too. Hard to believe a couple of inches of snow could cause such a mess. But it looks like they aren't plowing or sanding ANYTHING today.

I guess I got lucky that I made the switch this past weekend. No problems driving into work other than the traffic. I must have saw the same overturned vehicles that Frank saw b/c they were everywhere.
Hopefully everyone will get some snows on their car (or at least all-seasons) or just drive another car in the winter. RWD and soft-compound high performance tires are too dangerous this time of year around here.

So how bad are the stock sports tires for the snow? Would I be better off walking? J/K about that comment, but seriously, should I invest in good snow tires? |

I would not even bother to drive the car if there is piece of snow on the ground. My past experiences told me that summer tires are for summer, winter tires are for winter duh

Good choice - I've got exactly the same set up, except for non-RFT Dunlops.

Guys, just remember that its not just the snow that makes high performance tires slip everywhere, its also black ice. the soft compound in these tires when cold will constrict and become hard, thats not a good combo.

Looking forward to testing the xi tonight. I drove in way before any snow fell this morning...
