I can't recall all the costs, but I believe it was about $375 for the HU. Then about $20 for the fascia. Another $20 for the BMW harness from Joying. About $2.00 for the screws and thats about it. Maybe $5 for a 6' male to female USB. Thats USD. |

Yeah, I thought about this. You can mount it lower so it's not in line with the vents, but I never use heat on the face vents in the winter. I always use the defog function only. That is a definite sacrifice you need to make if you want to mount it higher and get heat to the face.

I really like this setup, but I can't find a 10.25" model listed anywhere. Does anyone know if Joying still makes this or if it was discontinued? I was considering the 9" option but I think I'd prefer this route if it's still available.

So after a few months of use, would you say the screen size is good enough for you? I'm deciding between this one and the 10.1", which is a bigger screen despite a smaller number because it's more squarely than the 10.25" that you have. I understand I would have to mod the climate control to fit the 10.1", but I thought bigger is better no?

I'm adding to this thread since I didn't want to start my own and I think this is the best, if not the only, one for this specific head unit.
Anyway, like PORTMOODY, my E90 is non-iDrive and I didn't want to hack up the dash. So a few months ago I bought the latest Joying 10.25" unit and BMW CANBUS adapter. I reviewed this thread and followed similar methods to center up the face plate. Instead of using metal brackets I drew up some spacers on Sketchup and put my old printer to work: I'm still not used to the size of the screen. It was really bothering me. I mean I was thinking it was TOO big. I really like how scanspeak pulled off the 8.8" Joying head unit. The fit and finish looks really good: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...=joying&page=8 That install is so nice and tidy it almost makes me want to switch. But I decided to keep my 10.25" and see if I can learn to love it. LOL... Besides, the larger screen will probably easier for my lousy eyes to see at a glance. I really hated the default interface, or launcher, that came from Joying. So after reading some reviews I tried the Agama launcher: Ugh... I couldn't stand it, either. I tried a few others including Car Launcher and didn't care for them. Then I came across Nova Launcher. It took some time to configure it the way I wanted, but I like this interface much better. This guy does a good summary: Like Shawn Loong, the Youtube reviewer, I didn't want to access my most used apps on more than two screens. Here's my current setup: As for the rest of the system, it's kind of a hodge podge of components. For now I'm just powering the OEM speakers with the head unit, using the built-in high pass filter so they're not being overdriven with bass. On the low end, I have a Massive Audio 500W amp powering a Skar SVR-12 that I used in my Jeep. The amp is in the OEM location, mounted on a plate I made for it. But since my E90 came with the base stereo there was just a storage bin there. I bought an OEM amp cover tray on eBay. The sub is in a ~2 cuft sealed enclosure that's easily removable for autocross days. |

so just be clear since this thread was last updated.
Joying are now offering 10.1" & 10.5" screens with kits designed for BMW E90 (no additional harness required). But their all seems to have a rear trim which require to relocate the climate control which I rather not doing as I also have the heat seats control panel. as per PORTMOODY modification, can I buy either of the Joying E90 above specific units (10.1"/10.50") and use the same single din trim that PORTMOODY used? Will I just need a universal metal stereo cage to hold the unit into the trim? Any other special brackets required? see below new units they offer: https://www.joyingauto.eu/joying-new...ps-screen.html https://www.joyingauto.eu/joying-10-...-and-play.html |

Can you please share a photo & a link for that.. I've been struggling to decide if I will buy the dedicated E92 units or the universal single din unit... Joying customer service are amazing as everyone describe on YouTube and very helpful on their emails, but there are still not enough photos for each product and what trims included on the dedicated unit for E92 and how would it fit with the climate control. not sure if was able to upload these 2 pictures, this 10.5" dedicated unit require to relocate the climate below, but this guy didn't have seat heaters panels. Also, Joying are not mentioning if this lower metal bracket included (in case I will ended up using an aftermarket ashtray which have the seat heater panels in it). Any panel from an LCI vehicle will work. Such as:

Also see my post in this thread:
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1857321 for a picture of my installation with a Eonon unit. I have a 2006 -- but the new climate control panel was plug and play. |

Wow, nice to see people are keeping this thread alive. Still using my joying unit and loving it. Haven't wired in my rear cam though lol. Super procrastinating.

Rodarbal, are you happy with the 10.25, or do you think you would rather go 8.8 floating, not fitted like scanspeak?

Just bought the "Cut the dash for the screen" https://avinusa.com/10-25-multimedia...1-e92-e93.html for Cyber Monday deal.
I went with the 1920 x 720P Android 10 With 4GB RAM 64GB Storage | SIM Card Support | Qualcomm Snapdragon because I don't think I'm going to be using it more than to watch movies and music and 4GB ram and 64GB is plenty for that. Comes with built in apple carplay and android auto. If anyone is interested in this setup I can record it. I know the cutting the dash is scary but IMHO, I think it looks a lot cleaner install. Also there was some study done that people are more comfortable looking up at screens, rather than down low near the gear shift, also you get a lot less glare up top it says so I will see if that is accurate. But this setup comes with 3 cameras. Park camera, rear trunk reverse camera, and a camera that goes over the front of the rear view mirror for a nice look of stock. The cameras all loop record with a battery all the time so you can see stuff even when the car is off. Cyber Monday saved me about $100 bucks. I wanted to do this project last year but never pulled the trigger. Last year I was about $680 in price, and it was cheaper this year not only with the discount for Cyber Monday but for the unit as well since the Android 11 version came out.

did your am/fm antenna plug directly into your new head unit? the E90 needed an adapter. not sure if F30 is the same.

joying 8.8"
I went with the 8.8". Just used the cage supplied with head unit and bent the tabs to hold it at desired depth. Full view of HVAC. Custom spacers weren't necessary, but still might later to center and move up a few mm.

The OEM Head Unit acts as the controller for that MOST bus segment (assuming you have Logic 7 system) and swapping in a non-OEM head unit will result in an SOS error. This can be coded out. Not sure whether a new OEM head unit still needs to be coded to avoid this error.
