I'd recommend Febi ones, Febi part numbers are 109591 (small) and 109562 (large). Replacing both just gives that extra peace of mind.

Thank you man will look into this. Yeah I think you are right it could be that the one I didn't replace isn't working or the other one isn't either as I just found a decently priced one.

UPDATE:
A coil pack was fried which has solved the initial misfire however it was a fairly new one that was replaced not long ago so not sure if something else is at play. Garage tested the DISA valves and looks like one of them is not working - coupled with the other being 2nd hand I've gone and bought two new Febi Bilstein ones reccomended by user: rnyassar for peace of mind. In addition garage will do a walnut blast, never been done on the car and thought it was only needed for N54 (turbo) engines but have seen a few owners benefit for it and want it running 100% so have gone for this too. Not booked in for another few weeks so will update soon! Hopefully if it feels its running well I will get it on the dyno again see if we have freed any power up! |

Walnut blast will benefit all direct injection engines including the N53, as oil vapours from the PCV system will lead to carbon build up. Port injection engines don't suffer this problem as the fuel going through the intake washes off the oil residue before it has a chance to solidify from the heat of the engine.

I did a home walnut blast on my N53 at 35k as the valves were surprisingly caked up in gunk.
The N53 also has EGR which adds to the problem and makes the middle 3 cylinder particularly susceptible to deposit formation. |

Therefore worth thinking about fitting a partial (but not complete) blanking plate into the EGR plumbing.

The reason posted by 0l0dom0l0 in post #29 i.e. to eliminate most of the cr*p fed from the EGR back into the induction system and valves.

So the car was on Charlie's Dyno Saturday gone (Surrey Rolling Road), and the results are around what I was shown on the dyno at Map Tech. Charlie's dyno is quite strict so it seems more likely that this result is closer to what I'm actually running. 255hp at peak. I have posted the graphs below, little hard for me to actually work out whats what, may have to reach out to charlie again, however from what I can tell, it seems to have a dramatic jump in power at 4500rpm which is much less linear than before, as well as there being a few dips, so not really sure what's causing either of those things. The car has had both the disa valves replaced for new as well as a wallnut blast since the last dyno run so I thought this would help power not potentially hinder it or cause discrepancies. Any ideas?

Okay so the graphs actually show a previous run on here as well that confuses things, that showed when the car was mapped by another company but only produced 205hp. I have spoken to charlie and also looked at my initial dyno and it looks as though the jump in power is pretty normal, the other graph shows power and fuelling which confused me as I didn't realise it was fuelling at first, it shows my intial run almost a year ago where the fuelling dips a lot however the reading above is muhc more steady.

How are your Febi DISAs doing now? Have heard a lot of reports of the aftermarket ones failing super early - but febi being a decent brand, have yours lasted quite a bit? Looking to save on the almost $800 OEM valves lol |
