I don't think that if a pipe does not cross it can be called a resonator. A resonator must have a specific internal structure. The e92 is a straigh x-pipe which does not cross

Proof that the e92 does not have a resonator is this: if you buy the BMW Performance Exhaust, the sedan includes an x-pipe and the coupe includes only mufflers and no x-pipe. Yet they sound the same and they have the same performance.

According to BMW, the coupe is 0.1 second faster 0-60.

coupe: 5.3/5.5 (stick/auto)
sedan: 5.4/5.6 (stick/auto)

Now the question is why. I don't think the weight difference explains it.

coupe: 3571/3582
sedan: 3593/3605

Did the loaner sedans have RWD and Sport Packages? If not, then you can't compare the two suspensions.

Well w.e. it has its a really small resonator ( but i think bmw considers it a X-pipe from the bmw performance kit has the same piping from the E92 for the E90) about 4 times smaller than the one on the sedan and makes the coupe alot louder.

IT has been considered a X-pipe from alot of members here, so if you cut one open thanks for sharing the info.....

Calm down and relax, at the end of the day the coupe is still louder and a small technical misinformation like that is not the end of the world buddy.

Coupe looks better, but is less practical. Sedan more practical, not as pretty.

Overall experience is the same. Both are superb.

so how about more people who have owned both? obviously there are E90 fans and E92 fans and they'll both tell you that theirs is better, though i will say that most E92 people think that everyone with an E90 "settled" for a sedan instead of actually wanting one

Coupe. Sexy, lighter, uncomfortable interior, better handling, easier to mod the exterior to make it even more sexy.

sedan. Cute, nicer than a coupe if tastefully modded, stiffer, more room, more practical, you could fit a set of golf clubs in the trunk, Just as fast as the coupe.

So theirs your answer it is not faster than the coupe its just less sporty looking.
Just thought I'd mark your errors in red. Also, golf clubs fit just fine in the coupe as well.

I have an E90 330xi and an E92 335i. As you know, the engines and drive layout are different, so I will not comment on performance, but can comment on the part of your question that is fairly obvious: the E90 body style may not be more mundane looking, but it is much more convenient when using e.g. child car seats.

If you're planning to leave it stock, I'd get a coupe; but if you're going to mod, I'd decide on whether or not I need the extra doors. They're both fantastic cars though, and you'd be lucky with either.

Coupe: looks better stock (although LCI sedans have caught up quite a bit), logic7 sounds better (not sure if it's a different system or just the cabin design), a sportier exhaust note

Sedan: bit of a sleeper, less modded ones around, a little more room and 2 extra doors, LCI is already available (if buying new)

I have a coupe, but my 2 cents:

Looks are subjective. To me the Sedan is a more agressive shape then coupe but coupe flows more elegantly. Don't really think either is "Sexy".

Coupes all have sport suspension and are stiffer bodies so they will feel different. I think the coupe rides lower or the seating position is lower. If this is true, it will feel different. If lower, stiffer and suspension stiffer, it will feel faster.

Sedans are more girlie according to some. MOdifying it is a must for homophobes. Coupes you can leave stock and still keep your machismo.

sedans have 4 doors and more head room whose advantages are obvious.

MSport Railess e91 is the best design. Best of all worlds unless your penis is small and you require turbo.

e92: + sportier, longer, lower
- not much space in the back, girlie looking

e90: + wider, more spacious, masculine
- headlights and tail lights as of 2008 and under

All depends on your taste, they perform roughly the same.

You really think couples look more masculine than sedans? Not that I think the e92 in particular is feminine, but I thought it was accepted that coupes are typically more on the feminine side. Maybe I'm just mistaken...

The local yuppie (women) crowd drive the sedans more than coupes. Seen countless women in sedans, only a handful in coupes though. Just my 2 cents.

Stock E92's? Maybe, wheels and color make a huge difference in "manliness"

JB E92, 230's = Not feminine

Montego E93/cream/stock = Feminine.

This is turning out to be to much like the other thread.

E90's are IMO. The LCI's come a long way. (Msport, blacklines, etc....) look decent.

Young and single= E92

Married with kids= E90

just because the bmw performance exhaust doesnt come with a xpipe doest mean the w92 doesnt have a resonator... your logic is terrible... all that means is bmw wants to retain the factory e92 resonator while switching the mufflers to get better sound...

there is no such thing is a straight x pipe... x pipe means that the pipes connect a a point in the middle for example CROSSING.
