A dashboard rattle was driving me to distraction too. Thought about removing the dash and driving without it.
Turned out to be the plastic engine cover not located in the lugs at the rear and thus rattling on the scuttle (the bit that houses the pollen filter just in front of the wipers).
2 min later and all was quiet......

After originally considering this and then discounting it for 'easier' fixes I'm thinking the same thing.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it. Though I'm not holding my breath.

To those who have had issues with spot welds, was the noise metallic? As in quite definitely a metal on metal sound?

They've got the car back so yet another update.

Sytner have removed the dash again and driven around without it. They seem to think the noise is coming from what they call the 'dash carrier. Basically whatever the dash is attached to. So they've ordered another one but unfortunately it's got to come from Germany. They've had my car since Tuesday and don't expect the part to arrive until the middle of next week.

In the meantime I'm driving around in a Mini Cabrio

Well they've still got my car. The part came Wednesday and the noise has returned. They're wondering if it could be a broken weld...

Kerr, could you please help me with this. I have the same issue and i am bringing my bmw 330 e92 to a KIA dealer tomorrow morning where my warranty is. Do you have any advice for me that i can pass along to the dealer? I really dont want cracking noises created by them when they remove the dash.

PS: did the rattling sound like this? Mine does

Did anyone actually solved the noise? I think I found the culprit. Not sure if anyone is still interested.
