I saw that the guys @ discount tire get all wheels to zero and still the vibrations start at about 60mph.

This article describes it pretty well: http://www.asashop.org/autoinc/nov2003/mech.htm

Basically "runout" in this case would be the measurement of how "out of round" the wheel is. Anything machined is going to have some amount of runout (nothing is perfectly round), but they can minimize it a great deal. So if the wheel or the tire has too much radial runout (basically a bump that causes it be more of an oval shape vs. round) you will get vibrations. Even if it is perfectly balanced.

I'd say you've got a wheel or a tire with too much runout...

I don't think so James. It's a consistent vibration.....not side to side but up and down.
It's very slight but it bugs the crap out of me.

I think it might be the tires. The person who was balancing the wheel mentioned that the tire might be a slightly out of round. He offered to re-align the wheel to the area of the tire out of round.

How do you combat this problem???

Thanks Scott

Hmm I would contact the place you ordered the tires from and try to get another set. They should be warrantied

You might want to check the wheels as well and make sure theyre round as well.

Discount tire's machine that rotates the tires only spins at 30mph. Do you think that finding a machine that spins faster like at 60mph would help?

Heres an update.

I have had the set rotated and balanced 5 times...6 on the fronts.
The problems are the Nitto Invos. They're terrible!

The rears finally force balanced ok with about 15lbs(43lbs before)on each wheel..... not great but acceptable.
The fronts were still way off with about 55lbs(83lbs before)on each wheel so I got the front tires replaced.

I got them on today and one balance @ 12lbs but the other one was @ 35lbs so I still have a bit of vibration. It still bus me a bit but I'm going to tolerate it and I hope it gets better with a little wear.

Conclusion:
I spent nearly $500 trying to get the Nitto Invo's balanced and still have problems with vibrations. I should have just have gotten the PS2 and not gone through the fustration, anger, headaches and a waste of my time!

3 out of 6 Nitto Invo's were not able to be balanced with the Hunter road force machine.
Furthermore, I'm not impressed with the performance of the tires. I don't know? ....People on the forum are raving about them but I can honestly say that they are way overrated and was not worth the money or the troubles. I think it's safe to say I will NOT be getting a second set or any Nitto product for that matter.

Nitto Invo's

Are you sure it took POUNDS to balance, and not ounces? Even at ounces, those are WAY, WAY off.

Yikes. Invo's are not on any of my lists now (not that it ever was really....)

Scott,
lbs referring to the force measured by every rotation of the wheel. So, i think one of the wheel (tire being the fault) measured 93lbs ....so with every rotation 93 lbs of force was measured off center. The operator said up to 15lbs is acceptable.

Sorry I wasn't clear on that.

The sidewalls of the tires are too soft. My steering feels mushy.

What shoe are you running on those advan?

Ah, I got it now. That makes a lot more sense. I was imagining big bricks of lead attached to your wheels!

My Advans are currently shod with the stock Potenza RFTs. I know, I know!

Once they wear down, or the road noise gets unbearable (getting close to that....), I'll probably go with Bridgestone RE-01Rs or the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs. Other tires I'm considering are the Goodyear F1 GS-D3s and of course Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s.

I dont know if youve ever seen me bash nittos, but imo theyre garbage.

Theyre show car tires, that dont perform well at all. My buddy was sponsered by them and every tire he had on his car was just plan awful.

Sorry you had to go through all this thought Seong. PS2 FTW

I guess we should start calling them "Shitto Invo's" maybe?

Yeah, I did see a post of you saying that the tires will underperform at the track and that they were pretty soft. I just didn't think that the build quality was going to be so bad.....not to mention the actual ride was so so. My car does feel mushy as far as steering and handling than before ...oh well, almost time to put the bridgestone rft back on.

My though process when looking for tires were that ...I don't track my car but I do spirited driving but I didn't think that just that warranted PS2's....especially with a 328i. I though PS2's was going to be overkill. If I had all the power of the 335 ...then yes!

I'm going to have to see if I can tolerate it ...I might have to send them back.

If youre just looking for tires that ride well and want a bit of performance, try Kumhos. Theyre surprisingly decent

Yea I am using Kumbo SPT now. My friend who has STI recommended me Kumho SPT for my budget. They are very quiet. Much better tires than I expected.
