The only kind of 'practical' rebuild you'd do on a journal bearing turbo is replacing seals.
A full rebuild kit comes in close to the cost of a new turbo.

If you are losing enough oil pressure to piss off your turbos, you've got much bigger bearings to worry about than the sleeve type

I've also seen some pretty jacked up sleeve bearing CHRAs come back to life for 2-300 bucks. A ballistics CHRA is easily 600-700+

IMHO, if I have an oil pressure problem, I'd rather deal with just that issue.
BB is just more tolerant / more robust.

If you don't care for that feature... no problem.
But don't make like it's pointless to have.

Take this example:
You ingest something in one turbo, and it springs a leak, causing loss in oil pressure.
Now do you want to lose the other one too?

(This is an actual example. I know someone who lost both turbos in a TT upgrade exactly like this. The rest of the motor was fine - he just lost two turbos after one broke and leaked oil. The other turbo starved and was damaged too. )

As far as the helix upgrade, I'm not dissing their setup.
No need to 'defend journal bearing'. It's perfectly fine.
I'd gladly buy it if it performs and actually is 'very reasonably' priced.

To re-iterate :
I've got no problem with journal bearing. I just "want" a bb setup, because I have different priorities.
I understand that you prefer journal because it's cheap to fix.

No, I'm not. If you destroy one turbo and that catridge leaks, and that's enough to drop the oil pressure of the entire system enough to blow the other turbo, you've got MAJOR issues other than some bad turbos unless you are a total bonehead and have both turbos T'd off of a single feed line. The facts are that I have had ceramic ball bearing turbos in different cars for years (nearly a decade now) and they simply haven't been anywhere near as reliable as the standard sleeve bearing ones. The only exception is the 35R that I had on my old Evo. It now has about 60k on it and going strong, though it has never seen more than about 22 psi until recently (runs 30 psi on pump gas now).

yeah I live in Gibbsboro but sold the car last month...as far as turbo specs we will offer full disclosure once we get all of our tuning and data done!

I just hope the turbos will fit better than Helix intercooler, which was announced as direct bolt on, with no trimming needed.
