I remember I paid just £10k for my 1996 P reg Hell Red 328i Coupe back in 1999 at 3 years old. Think that must have been a bit of a bargain back then!! Lost a lot more than 50% value in just 3 years!

It's not just performance BMW models crashing in value. Check out Porsche, Aston Martin, Audi, Alfa and Jaguar. Infact BMW are holding up a lot better than many.

I guess as times get harder, it will be the privileged few who will be able to run big fast petrol engined cars.

that was a bargin i paid 9k for a 1997 e36 saloon 328i se in 2002 and it was the cheapest a round and a little miley at 75k

those that can afford to run big engine car's will be privileged and they don't want car's over 3 years old unless a classic

These days I buy new or up to a couple of years old. I guess you just have to except a big hit when you come to sell at four or five years old.

For me my next car will probably be a new 335i, I cant see my self trading down to a 2.0 or similar. Petrol would have to be £2.00 per litre to consider down grading, but I would still run a superbike to get the speed thrill

All this my 335i is better, quicker etc than a 911, got me thinking.....so I went and looked on my drive, and have decided to keep the pork. I know how fast a modded 335i can be, but one thing it can never be is a 911. You all know that every car I've owned has been modded, even my wife's school run GT Sport Golf has been mapped, but not my 911, it is about as good as it gets for me, all I've done is add a sports exhaust, and thats for more aural pleasure. Yes it quick, but as well as that is the excellent road holding, and the sense of occasion every time I drive it.

And back on topic that's unbelievable value for a 335i, but I'd want a decent warranty to back it up.

Wow, a lot of you guys must spend a fortune on track days what with all these races you've had against 911s.

Also comparing modded cars to un-modded cars is just senseless. People have managed to squeeze 1000bhp from a 997 so surely if you are going to compare a modded 335 then do it against a modded 997.
CALMMMM DOWN GUYS!!!! no need to argue.. as you said, the evo is a sports saloon then the 335i is a sports coupe then you have the 2 seater sports car!!

everyone thinks different so lets end the argument here!! =]

Love my 335i, but come on guys you cannot compare it to a 911. Its like saying a tuned Astra VXR is as good as a 335i because they both put out 300bhp....still at £10K you can spend £3K on mods and really push the BHP up, than keep £2K aside in case the turbos blow, and have your self a very rapid piece of kit for <£15K

Im struggling with this thread. The 335i is a great car, by any yardstick, but cannot be compared to a thoroughbred like a 911. Way I see it, the 335i is top of the 1st division, whereas a 911 is premier league.

Good analogy
List prices tell the story
As many have done on here, enjoy a 335i as a daily drive then go onto a 911 as a bit of an upgrade.
It just is more special.
My plan is to hold out until 997's fall in value when new shape is on sale and pick up a nice c2s or gts (financial situation allowing) to use everyday.
The beat thing about both of these cars are the good economy fuel etc in terms of their performance.
Also on a street in central London both are largely ignored, not targeted by scum bags.

Erm,,,I guess that settled then

335i at £10-11k is a performance bargain. Its not a sports car, its not as pure as a 911, its almost as quick as an M3, better than a VXR, can do 30 mpg and beat a gallardo when tuned to 480 bhp. (nice vid that!).

Will they keep dropping in price, do bears shit in the woods.

Phew

Gah... a 335i is a 335i. If I wanted a Porsche, I'd buy one. Some Porsches are faster than some BMWs, some BMWs are faster than some Porsches. It's not a competition, and neither is 'better' than the other - they're just different. Yay for free will and plenty of choices

Haha and I am just a little green with envy.
350-400 na hp is the holy grail as far as im concerned with a daily driver
Strikes a cracking balance between actually being able to hit the limiter in a few gears before you loose your licence. track enthusiast obv have a different pov.

As much as I would love to own and respect the 500plus crowd I would rather a smaller lighter lower powered porker that you can make sing on regular basis.

In central London you see r8's fezzes lambos etc open up for 2 seconds and then slam on the anchors. As grateful as I am to hear these lovely sounds it all seems like overkill to a degree.
As ever my humble opinion only.
